on ride camera idea!

what if you took a camera and put it on the train facing the riders and hooked it up to tvs in the ride lines . Just trying to make them long lines less boring. It would also be really funny b/c some people really have a problem with freakin out on some rides.

Privacy would be one problem... I wouldn't myself, as well as I think many others... to be broadcast via video as I'm trying to ride & enjoy a ride on my own.

It may be humerous or enjoyful to those who are watching, but for many, I'm guessing they wouldn't enjoy being broadcast to a line of 1000 peeps.

David - give that a little more thought and you'll discover why that's really not such a good idea.

Cool idea or not, it's not cost-effective. It's much cheaper to have all the queue montiors playing programming from one central source [in most cases a hard drive that can hold a few hours of programming].

Plus people would be "flipping off" the line all day...which would amuse some people, but make many unhappy.

It would be cool if they could take a onride video somehow of your ride and sell it to you. I might actually buy something like that(much like they do with onride photos). But with how much most parks charge for onride photos, I can't imagine what they would sell onride videos for.

Batman: The Ride at SFGAm sort of does your idea the other way around, it films people in the line and you can watch it if you sit near the back while your waiting to be dispatched.

They do this already on many upcharge rides. Skyscapers, Skycoasters, etc. People can watch the monitor in front of the ride and watch the riders. It works on two levels. It "sells" the ride to onlookers who might then pay to ride and riders themselves have a chance to purchase the video.

I was thinking of the same thing a couple of years back when I was at PKD & asked a ride op if it could be done & they said yes it can be done but would be too expensive at this point to have camera's mounted to the coaster trains.

The idea came to mind while watching xtreme skyflyer at PKD & how they were able to shoot video's of each riders flight.

I wouldn't want to be recorded while I was on a coaster. I wouldn't be able to enjoy it knowing hundreds of people were watching me.

Several years ago, when last I was at Hershey, they made videos of their rapids ride, which they would then sell to you. I remember this distinctly because my friend lost his glasses, and we went to the videotape (which they ran at one point on the exit path) to see where he lost them.

There might be a way to make a queue slide show with on-ride photos bot cost-effective and guest-friendly. Instead of displaying everyone's photo, they could build up a library of photos which are interesting (i.e. embarrassing) yet wholesome (i.e. not obscene), from guests who don't mind their photos being used this way. If the park is concerned about legal issues, the guest could sign some sort of release when they buy their prints. It wouldn't take long to accumulate a library of hilarious shots that would make standing in line a bit more tolerable.
