Any updates on Japan Intamin, Thunder Dolphin?

back on topic... I haven't heard anything except that they were testing (I think). Who else besides me thinks this is a horrible name for a ride? I mean Thunder DOLPHIN? I am not taking away from the coaster because I think it looks fantastic, but I just think that the name is horrible... La Qua was nice, because it is unique and original. but THUNDER DOLPHIN?? what are coaster names coming to?

Remember this comes from the same people who named WWII ships in similar fashions. The translation obviously loses somethign and this is a completely different culture after all.

I think Thunder Dolphin is a great name - I mean how many times would you ever be scared of a Dolphin? Now put thunder in front of it and all of a sudden, that's one pissed off dolphin! And since you never see a pissed off dolphin, it must be *really* bad if it is! Therefore, this is a terrifying situation. I sure wouldn't want to run into a Thunder Dolphin while I'm on a jetski or something.

Remember, dolphins kill sharks with their snouts ;)

Besides all the wonderful gay/straight/beavers talk, this thread pointed me to that video of the ride (thanks Fusion!). Gotta say, while it looks very interesting, I actually don't think it looks like that great of a coaster. Unique yes, fulfilling, no. I guess I'm not really all about drops off buildings directly into brakes.

However, the trick track is wacky tobaccy! I thought that looked nifty. Not to mention the second entrace to the top of the building -- looked rather fun! I guess I'm not killing myself to get to Japan for this coaster like I thought I would be though...ah well, another Intamin in the world doesn't really hurt (although it might when you get tossed from the train! ....Oooh low blow, sorry ;)).

Wow. That ride looks pretty sweet. How steep is that first drop? I really like the turn up onto the mall the first time. It looks like it's banked well past 90 degrees. The trick tracky stuff on the second pass on the mall looks pretty interesting also. I always thought the sleds for the cable lift hills engaged the middle of the train.....

And that 45.5 degree lift hill is SO much steeper than MF's.

I have to agree with Badnitrus: I was absolutely mad about this ride and was so nervous when I finally saw the video today. But apart from the location, the marvellous drop and the killer overbanks over the rooftops, there seems to be missing something. I think its track!

Ok, this ride is a marvel and racing through a hubless ferriswheel sure is orgasmic and should not be judged by watching a video, but there is really missing a helix or another turn through the ferris wheel.

Especially the last drop into the brakes comes a little early and I am not going to book a flight to Tokyo right away.

But still: It looks sooo science fiction
