Volcano Valley

What does everyone think Kennywood will do with this new area? No coasters are there at the moment and I dont think it is a very large area. It seems to me that Kennywood would not make a new area and not put a coaster there. I was thinking an Impulse with the station being in a cave with red track and black rails, a la Nemesis Inferno.

There isn't even enough room for a coaster the size of Cornball Express. Trying to fit an impulse coaster in there is out of the question since there is no free room at all. Plus the next coaster KP will build will be on the plot of land they are trying to acquire in the valley.(the area between the Pizza Hut and Jack Rabbit/Racer)

As Coasterman Mike has stated, there is absolutely NO room in that area. The only way that they could build a coaster in Volcano Valley is if they buy Kennywood Blvd and move it up over the hill. I don't really think the state is going to go for that.

As for the building in the valley behind the Racers and Jack Rabbit, I think I remember my grandpa saying that they owned part of it or all of it because they bought it off the Union Railroad, his former employer. But, I'm not 100% certain that is true.

Remember they also own the entire area behind Exterminator. That's a definite possibility for a coaster there, keep on using the terrain. But as stated before, there's barely room for a midway to walk on let alone a coaster in Volcano Valley (which I still think is going to be a disaster of an idea - and I hate it that my favorite bathrooms, dirty stinky and all but still nostalgic - are gone!)

Don't they own all the way down to that one bridge? Not the Homestead Grays bridge, but the one before it?

Yes, this area is NOT I repeat NOT a new area!! It was simply removing the boardwalk bathrooms, and replacing them with the King Kahuna. The Volcano Valley is just simply going to be a themed area around the Pirate, Volcano, and the King Kahuna.

I did wish it was a new area, with a new coaster but dreaming on...

Lost Phantom, I don't think its all the way to the Rankin Bridge, I think its only about the equivalent of two or three blocks down Kennywood Blvd towards the bridge.

Thanks for clearing that up PittDesigner. Even those two or three blocks is enough to build a sizable coaster.

Kennywood only owns a few of the houses that are behind Exterminator. Those houses are rented out to some of the full time workers of KP. The land I was refering too is not part of KP. They have trying to aquire it for years now. If they do infact aquire it, don't expect a major expansion. First they want to solve the problem of parking. That's their main concern.

KpExpress: If it isn't a new area then why does the park and rides office claim it as one? Here is the link if you continue to doubt me: http://www.kennywood.com/new.cfm

Marketing, Coasterman Mike.

Like mentioned earlier, the Pirate and Enterprise (volcano) are already there and have been in those positions for many years. The bathrooms are being removed and the top spin put in it's place. Add the theme and voila - a "new" area in Kennywood. It's not an *additional* area, just a newly themed one.

It's a new area, but I mean is it's not a big new expanision to the park, it's just a new area that's going to be themed, New with the King Kahuna

KpExpress: Ahh... now I see what you were trying to get at.

IMO, when you get a look at what the finished product will be, you would've never guessed that the Enterprise could've been such a themed ride. This mountain KP is building is very large. :)

At first I was a little leery about what Kennywood was doing, but from the report's I've heard, I'm really starting to look forward to it. I can't wait to see it on opening day! :)

I can't wait to see how the enterprise will look inside of a volcano. I wonder if it will be an indoor flat ride. Anyway, I'll still ride it and the new ride their.

The more I hear about this Volcano Valley, I am looking more and more foward to my trip to kennywood in July. Ive never rode the Enterprise before, Ive never been much for the Spin and Puke rides...but if this themeing is good, I might have to ride it. Will it be completly inclosed? Im kind of doubting that...does anybody know anything about the volcano theming?

He was talking about the Volcano, I think. No, it won't be enclosed; it may be a bit difficult to see the ride unless it's started to go vertical, though. The mountain is pretty substantial.

Also, from what I've heard, the next coaster is planned for neither behind the exterminator, nor for in the train yard valley. Of course, plans do tend to change around here.

I hope it's a new type of coaster or a floorless, stand up, screaming sqiurrel, inverted, or a launched coaster like dragster.
