Freefall Towers(Pitfall, Giant Drop, ect.)

Is it just me or do freefall towers such as Pitfall, Giant Drop, and Power Tower put more fear into people then some of the baddest roller coasters?

My fiance and father refuse to ride Drop Zone at PKI. My mom and I love it, though.

I was on it once last year when there was a 40 year-old dad with his 8 or 9 year old daughter. She was totally groovin on it and he looked like he was about to soil himself.

I don't think it's the drop itself, probably the slow climb to the top. That's a long time to think about "What if this thing doesn't stop?"

Including me. I ride them, but I think freefall rides are by far the scariest thrill rides. Not the best, but the scariest. Power Tower and Demon Drop are both 10x scarier to me than MF. The height with no sides, the fear of a breakage that would send you crashing to the ground, and the true weightless feeling (the Demon Drop type rides are the best for this) are all things you don't really get on a coaster.

I wasn't nervous in the least when I stepped aboard MF for the first time, but my first PT ride on the drop side made me a little nervous.

I have been on a lot of different freefall rides and none of them scared me.I like Pittfall the best.

I STILL haven't been brave enough to go on the Turbo Drop side of Power Tower! I did get over my fear of the Space Shot side. There isn't a coaster that scares me though!

Like Catherine, I have never been scared by a Coaster yet. My biggest, Goliath, had me begging to ride and waiting in a 2 hour line.

Which is more than I can say for Supreme Scream ... its not called that for nothing.

I have rode only 10 coasters, and one freefall. The coasters didn't scare me a bit, but on the turbo drop on the Dominator scared the living crap out of me. I would agree that Freefall towers are scarier than coasters!

I love freefall rides! If a park has one, I'm on it. When SFoG opens there stand-up gyro drop ride that tilts out 20 degrees at the top of a 175-210' tower and then drops you, dang. That is gonna be one sweet fall.

Oh Yeah...lmao!! I love free fall drop towers!! I was on the PT at Cedar Point and I gotta tell ya.. I was having the time of my life!! I rode the spaceshot side but didn't get the chance to ride the drop side. We have a double shot ride here in Indiana at IB and It just isn't tall enough!! by the time you get shot to the top it's already blasting you back down, you raise up off the seat at least three inches!! I love it!!!

I agree that freefall rides are much scarier than coasters. I was scared to death of coasters when I first started riding, but now I'm used to them and the only (sometimes) scary part is the lift. But I haven't ridden enough drop rides to get used to them so they still scare me pretty bad. But that's what makes them fun!

As for the Demon Drop, I can see why that ride is so scary. It looks and sounds like it could crumble into a wrecked pile of metal at any time. If there's any ride out there that will put the fear of an accident into me, that's it.

I know rides can't fail. They can't. Therefore, how can I be scared? I see people riding and surving. What is there to be scared of?

I always get more freaked on a freefall ride. I guess it's just the fact that you're so exposed in a freefall seat, where as a roller coaster, you usually have more stuff around you. The vertical drop is much scarier too, I can't really say why. I love drop rides, but they do scare me.

It is kind of remarkable, isn't it? When you see Freefall at SFMM barely visible amidst the jungle that is Riddler's Revenge you say to yourself, "yeah, right"; but when you're up there, right before you drop, it's "oh, brother, what was I thinking?!"

The free fall/shoot up rides are one of my fav's. I've never been scared to ride them, they are awesome. I've ridden the Dominator at Dorney and PT at the point and I love them. My friend however is scared to death of them and we have to drag him on. The only thing that scares me in an amusement park (But I still love to ride them) are sky coasters. It just sucks that you have to pay so much to ride them.

(Just thought I'd mention, it's "Pitt Fall". Kennywood was kind enough to name the thing after its hometown, so why don't we recognize it as such? ;))

i've ridden freefall rides, but not by choice. they scare the living daylights out of me but family makes me ride with me. no coaster scares me, just that fact of not being able to see under you and not knowing your going to drop just makes me quiver.

The creepiest free-fall I've been on was the portable Fabbri tower in the Georgia Dome at IAAPA. I really didn't think that thing would be so intense. I rode it with RideMan. It took us up to the height of the nose-bleed seats, apparently pulling up against several pistons that gave us an extra "boost" when it let go. It really felt like the thing wasn't going to stop. I was impressed.
