Out of the ordinary coaster placements.

I was just curious, coasters are typically in the norm constructed at theme parks, amusement parks, and carnivals where people expect these creations to be built. But now we see coasters being constructed at places we never thought would happen such as zoos, Go-Cart parks, rich peoples back yards, and a marine park known as Sea World.

Has there been any other non-expected place where a coaster has been built, or what place do you think would be cool to create a coaster? Use your imagination folks, because it feeds the brain. LOL!!!

How about in a mall. I know this has been done at least twice now. (IE: Mindbender in Canada, and Pespi Ripsaw in Mall of America, Minneapolis, MN). But now here is the weirdest place I found (and road) a roller coaster in a movie theatre complex. I found it at a theater in Salt Lake City Utah. It really was on a Gator style coaster but believe me for a small coaster it was quite fun.

City Parks that are not primarily amusement parks.

I forget the name of the town, but there is a town in ohio that has a couple of amusement rides in their city park. I'm not sure if there is a roller coaster there or not. *** This post was edited by millrace on 2/8/2001. ***

I remember way back when drive-in movie theaters where the thing, there was a coaster at the Wexford Starlite north of Pittsburgh.

The mindbender in the Edmonton's mall is one of the most intense rides I've ever been on. Those loops are very, very tight and fast. Those drops are almost vertical! Also, there is the desperado in a hotel, and other various coasters in hotels in Las Vegas.

Well there is that one coaster in the UK (Megafobia I think) that's right in the middle of a sheep pasture. But the weirdest place I've ever heard of a coaster was actually in someones house. My mom tells me that the father of a childhood friend of hers make a little track from one of those mini railroad tracks (like on 'Silver Spoons') and made it with little dips in it. Apparently, all the neighborhood kids wanted to hang out at her house. I wonder why? ;)

I think shuttle loops or boomerangs would be the best thing to put inside malls because of space. This doesn't have to do much with question but I thought I'd add it in.

Not exactly a coaster, but isn't the huge ferris wheel at the IX Center permanent?

millrace, you may be thinking of Tuscora Park in New Philadelphia, OH. There are a couple of similar parks in Logansport and Lafayette Indiana...although the Logansport park lacks a coaster. Riverfront Park in Spokane, Washington might also qualify with its Loof carousel and a smattering of carnival rides.

Shoot! There's a coaster in New Philadelphia, OH? I've been there many times, yet had no idea. Man, maybe I'll go along with my parents next time they head out there to get some furniture from the Amish. ;)

(Note: Is New Philadelphia home of the House of Baskets or something...? I vaguely remember something "Roadside America"-ish like that there.)

Well, there is a pritty big Ferris Wheel, a carousel, a fun little kiddy coaster, and a couple of flat rides at the Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack, NY. The kiddy coaster and flat rides are in a huge arcade known as JEEPERS. If I am not mistaken, there was also a little kiddy train ride on the first floor, but I am not sure if it was just a holiday thing. It would be cool if they put an adult ride since the Palisades is the second largest mall in North America with some high ceilings. There is also a carnival that comes to the parking lot every summer or so which brings quite a few rides.

Well, since we are including other rides in this topic, then I guess I will say Navy Pier in Chicago. They have one of the biggest Ferris Wheels and a Merri-Go-Round. Its pretty cool riding the wheel on a summer night because you are on Lake Michigan and get a pretty good view of the Chicago skyline.

New Philadelphia is the place I was thinking of. Thanks RideMan. I was there this summer as part of a "business trip" I just saw a Ferris Wheel from the road and somebody pointed out that they had a few rides there. Wish I could have stopped but I was part of a group with another mission. . .

If you are including other rides, Carousels show up in all sorts of places. I often find a carousel ride a good way to beat the winter blues.
