I didn't want to send this out via e-mail, because it really only applies to people who frequently participate in the forum.
The noise level is getting a little high, and that's not good. This is still a moderated forum, and I don't really care to explain that over and over again. I don't care who agrees with who provided disagreements are supported and not personal.
A few members have this impression that I sit around all day looking to see who I can piss off and exert my mighty power over. Give it a rest... this is a hobby, not a conquest. I have much bigger things in life to worry about than what some person on the other side of the country thinks about me, the site, or some enthusiast-related issue. Because it's just that trivial, and the bulk of site visitors don't care either, such noise is eliminated.
Today, a great number of my friends were laid off because of some executive's stupidity. That's a real life problem, and one that I'm far more preoccupied with than some of yours.
If this site troubles you in some way, step away from the machine and go out for an ice cream cone.

"Structural changes" is the commonly used term for layoffs. Its basically trying to sugar coat something that is nothing but bad news and grief for the people affected by it. Heck , come to Chicago where we have witnessed in the last couple of months of people that are going to be unemployed.
1. Montgomery Ward, 37,000 jobs nation wide
2. Motorola, 2500 jobs at its Harvard Ill plant
3. Brachs candies, shutting its manufacturing plant in Chicago, 1000 jobs(approximately)
4. JCPenny, closing a bunch of stores(? jobs )
5. Sears, closing a bunch of stores, eliminated the catalog and layoffs(dont know how many)
6. Daimler-Chrysler , 2000 jobs at its Belvidere Ill plant (makes the Neon)
Yes folks, it is getting scary.

Hey no problem here. I give credit to those who take the time to create a site of this nature. I am probably not the only one to say this, but Coasterbuzz is my favorite web site and it basically stays in my browser all day. Jeff, keep up the great work. I can relate to the layoff's. My company's gone through that before. Scary stuff.
CHITOWN on the Chrysler issue - They just layed off a bunch of people in the Kenosha, WI plant. We make the engine's for the Dakota's and all Jeep's.

Jeff, concerning the layoffs, it's really too bad. I hear about it every day from my dad, he's one of thsoe union guys.

Another thing to note, after I got an ice cream, I went into this member directory thing for Yahoo! and I was searching for people from Bremerton. It seems like most of the people from there do not even care or know that it is the home of MxPx.

In the 12 years I have worked for the same company, I survived 3 layoffs. Thank god its not a union business. They keep the productive people and weed out the useless. No disrespect to the union folks here but in my case not being union saved my job.

Jeff, I think the majority of us appreciate what you and the moderators do for CoasterBuzz. I have seen my share of corporate restructuring. You see long time coworkers given their walking papers, not knowing if you're next.
Other than the few of us out here who make a living in the amusement industry, this is a hobby,a diversion. We all need to try to keep things in perspective. Well thought out debate is informative, and enjoyable. All noise does is pollute. This is one of the best sites on the web,largely due to what you and the moderators do. We can all help by thinking before posting.

This is for Jeff mostly, but for everyone else, too. Have the buzzers noticed this trend since our sudden increase in membership of this wonderful site? I have read some great threads surrounded by worthless "noise", the same that Jeff is speaking about. It's not that I don't mind good debates, but it seems with the increase of buzzers, the noise has become unbearable at times, to the point of non-participation.
Since joining three months after the site opened, I have personally toned myself down, with the aid of the elderstatesmen of the site. And to them, I thank them, since NOW, I see how I was and am (sniff) a better person, or buzzer, for it.
To the youthful buzzers: Do we actually read, or think for that matter, before we press the "Submit reply" button? Or do we just wail away at the first post that hits a sensitive nerve? Do we realize that this is fun? Or is it a direct crack at our personal values, since this is a hobby, not a workplace? Is the winter blahs getting the best of us? Or do we need to contemplate ripping before we post?
All ice cream cracks aside... within the last 3 months, Randy H. and Jeff have written FAR TOO MANY threads pertaining to this topic. All I am asking, as an elder, but beginning buzzer, is that we think about the fact that we all have one love. And THAT is what is bringing us together on the net, here. Heck, I have only met two of you: Coasterpunk (great guy) and Jeff (confident, hard working, organized). So, I have no beefs with anyone...just good, clean fun and debate.
I hope we realize the goal of this site, before it's too late and we waste a truly, awesome way of discussing our love of RCs.

And you know, that's a lot of it. Instead of just joining and jumping right in, it's always good practice to "lurk" for a little while to get the feel of the boards. Though I must admit that I, personally, didn't do that, hindsight is always 20/20. If I had sat on the bench for a few, I would have gone into the game with a pretty good idea of what was going on. A few fights wouldn't have happened, too.
Although I've only been here since about June of 2000, and I don't have nearly as many posts as a lot of other buzzers, I like to think that I know how to act, know what's right and what's wrong, know how to recognize a debate from a flame war, etc. That comes with experience, and, like I say, if you sort of sit back and check things out for a while before getting involved, you'll be helping yourself and the community a bunch. ;)

I try to do my part in limiting the noise by posting very infrequently. I only post if I have a particular question, need clarification, or feel I can answer or provide a unique insight. I check these forums everyday and certainly appreciate the highly moderated style. Most other forums become useless because you have to wade through so much crap and people posting items simply to feel self-important. Actually, this post doesn't contain much of substance so I'll stop.
Anyway, highly moderated is the way to go. Keep up the heavy handed approach.

I don't anyone to be misconstrued by this. We don't in any way shape or form, want to scare you away from participating in threads. Without your participation, this forum would never have evolved into what it is today.
This is how we define noise;
-Someone who makes a post that is completely irrelevant to the subject matter of the forums.
-Sparking (or participating in) a flame war.
-Feeding trolls.
-Making a post just so they can hear themselves.
The only thing that we do ask, is that when you post, think about what you are saying. Does your reply (or post) make sense? Is your post going to potentially offend anyone? Does your post make a mockery of the English language? Did you hit that funny little spell check button?
Remember, most times what you say is a reflection of you.

I want to participate, but when people are just writing to hear themselves and upset the lot, then, I'm gone, next thread...or, dare I say...next website?!?!
