Transportation Questions about SFGam, and the Chic

To anyone who lives the Chicago-Gurnee area.. I plan on taking the train from Toronto to Chicago to go to Six Flags Great America. I am wondering if there is any public transit from Chicago to the park, or any kind of shuttle service?

Also when is a good time to go Great America? I finish school in at the end of April..

I would recommend coming in May/early June to get the most BANG for your buck (based on crowds only). I am not sure about transportation though. Would you be going to O'Hare or Midway. (Ohare is closer.) Milwaukee airport may be better than either of those. But not necessarily cheaper. There are several hotels nearby and some of them may offer shuttle services to Ohare. Well, I am not sure of any transit from Chicago to SFGAM, but I would definitely wait until both of the new coasters are open. Opening weekend is May 5th, which is a Saturday. Are you planning on going during the week. The crowds will be less then and you could get some quality ride time.

I assume you are taking a train into Chicago Union Station?

You can take a Metra interurban train from downtown Chicago to near Great America -- the station is a few miles away from the park, and then a cab from there. There a few hotels near Great America, and more are located just over the expressway from the park. I'm afarid I don't know what train you need to take, but you can find out by calling RTA information at 312-836-7000, or go online to their website at rtachicago.com. They'll give you very specific directions on how to get from the Amtrak train station to the Metra station you need. Some Metra trains leave from Union Station, so you may be able to stay in the same station.

Actually you would want to get off at the Waukegan station. Its the closest to the park and they have Pace bus service from the train to the park. The train is called Metra. Waukegan is directly east of SFGAm.

Thanks a lot.. Yeah I plan on coming down during May or June I,m not sure yet.. But if anyone want to hook up I have no problem whatsoever :) When I ride I ride non-stop all day, except for maybe a washroom break, and a beer :)

I most certainly would not mind meeting up with you on your trip to SFGAm. Drop me an email. Just click on INFO and my email will be there. BTW, just out of curiosity, what is your age. And is there any good roller coasters up by your neck of the woods? I have yet to go to Canada...but I want to someday.

If you are planning to take a trip to SFGAm and the City of Chicago, there's a very small problem. Chicago is a little south from Gurnee. About a hour drive. But if your planning on staying near Gurnee or the park, I guess none of this concerns you, now does it?? ;)

I,m 23...

I live the GTA(Greater Toronto Area) So we have PCW. Which has the minebuster, Wildbeast, and a few others. Not bad, not the best though.. The flatrides here rock though! We are getting a Mondial Topscan!

There is also Dragon Mountain at Marineland, Martin's Fantasy Island across the border(ISlver Comet), and Darien Lake, which is a 2hr drive away..
