King Cobra for sale?

I just finished reading through the latest rumors over at Thrillride and it turns out King Cobra (PKI) is for sale! Normally, I would just blow something like this off, it is thrillride after all, but this wasn't a rumor. This was the editor actually saying this. This can only mean a new coaster for PKI is in the very near future!!

Maybe a real stand-up! (a B&M stand-up for all of you newbies)

King Cobra does not take up much space at all, it only covers around 2 acres of land. I would hate to see them try to cram a larger standup in that spot. I think they should keep King Cobra for the coaster count, and build a new coaster somewhere else in the park. Anyways, I like King Cobra, and I hope the selling of this coaster does not turn out to be true.

That's gotta be bull****. There's no point in removing, only a reall small coaster or a flat ride or two could fit in that tiny spot. Not to mention it is still relatively popular. ALso, the same rumor has been going around for years, I doubt it's true this time.

I think they should keep it also, I mean it was the first stand up

There is NO reason to take this ride out! Why would they ever consider spending the time and effort to remove a ride that still has long lines? The maintainence cost is low, the popularity is high, and although the turnover has been bad, it does not make sense to sell it.

So, not only are thhey selling the first stand-up, but they're selling one of the best. It has great airtime. Keep King Cobra! I would much rather them lose Adventure Express even though it's a very decent mine train. A lot more land there are one of the most disaapounting endings to any coaster(no big drop). Better than most. Keep the coaster count. Keep a good coaster. I really hope this doesn't turn out true.

I have heard from an Unofficial, Unidentified source, that King Cobra, Shockwave, and Skyrider are all for sale. But this same source claims that the rides have in fact all been on the market for some time now with no takers. Assuming the rumor is true (I have no way of confirming or denying) then I suspect that King Cobra will continue to operate until someone decides he wants it more than Kings Island does. And given the ride quality of a Togo ride, it could be a while.

As for me, I really don't care unless they undo the train modification they made last season. My last ride on that thing put me into so much pain that I may never get on board that ride ever again. If it goes away, I won't miss it any more than I do now.

Rideman - I believe you are correct. Several times in the last year, Amusement Today had a used rides add that had the following:
"Togo Stand Up Roller Coaster - 1986 - USA"
This is of course Shockwave from PKD. I believe it first appeared in the add after the 2 accidents on it.

The same broker had a "1992 Arrow Dynamics 5 inversion rollercoaster" which was obviously Drachen Fire.

I suppose that after the many incidents on Shockwave Paramount might want to wash their hands of their TOGO standups. Anyone else see Shockwave listed for sale in AT?

Why does everybody keep thinking that King Cobra was the first stand-up? If im not correct 1983 comes before 1984....

King Cobra was definitely the first stand-up in thr US in '84.

Well, failures are not usually bothered to be counted. Take suspended coasters for example. The Bat wasn't the first, but it was the first successful one, so it takes the credit as being the first. Hence the reason King Cobra is credited as being the first, regardless of Extremeroller. Of course, I believe that is only for the USA. I'm pretty sure that Togo had already built one or two stand-ups in Japan.

King Cobra is listed as the first standup "looping" coaster in the U.S. There were other standups, but the key word is loop.
I am not sure if Japan had a looping standup before 1984 or not, they could have.

I think the key is that EVERYBODY wants to forget EXT...including Arrow.

Worlds of Fun enthusiasts wont let you forget... It opened in 1983 and ran for a year and a half. When the ACE museum opens (if it is ever BUILT) ACE will recognize the EXT as being the first stand up coaster in ths US. At one time Worlds of Fun was known for several firsts... not any more Sorry I think this whole snow thing is getting to me.

They will then list Extremeroller as the first U.S. stand-up, and King Cobra will be known for the first U.S. standup to have a loop. Like you said, if the ACE museum is ever built that is.
