Mr Freeze

Im doing a science project on LIM. Im creating one, and by showing this I am attepting to make a model of Mr. Freeze. Can anybody tell me how would you do it and the best material used for it? Also are there any kits for it?

I think it would be kinda hard to get track, LIMs and Cars that would actually work right. If the project is just on LIMs, try to get the LIMs working first, then see what you can do with the track. As for me. I would try doing an Impule first, like Wicked Twister or something. As for Kits, I haven't seen any, but there are some good topics around here on how to create your own LIM.

All you need are some magnets, some possitive, some negative, just put the 2 different charges on the train and the track.

The way I was going to create a LIM was by buying 3-4 sets of magnets. Attach 2 magnets to a wooden block(in the back) leaving a 1/2 airgap. I will do this for all of the remaining magnets. I will attach aluminum foil to the trains. I just need some material to build the model with. I need to build the model 1st because the purpose of it is to see if I can create a LIM so it doesn't have to work(would like it to)

And you think that will actually work?

im in 11th now, but back in 8th grade i was trying to make a lim also, ahahaha, I knew how they worked and all that stuff, but i could only get the car 2 move 1 inch, So i just lied about all my data, and got a A. lol

No, im applying electrical power to the magnets with wiring.

LIM's do not use any permanent magnets. The "induced" refers to induced magnetism. electromagnets are mounted on the track and the trains have aluminum fins that the electromagnets act on by inducing electrical currents and resulting magnetic fields in the fins. Fixed magnets are mounted on the trains for LSMs. (linear synchronous motors) Also similar alumionum fins are used for breaking with fixed magnets mounted on the track.
