"Birdmen" coaster in Japan - accident?

Someone posted in another (unrelated) topic about the Birdmen coaster in Japan (http://rcdb.com/installationdetail1193.htm) which only operated for a few months until an accident rendered it SBNO.

Has anyone got any details on the accident? Was it bad, or was it just such that it needs to be comprehensively modified? Will it re-open.

Thanks. Have a good new year everyone.

According to news reports from the accident scene, only 2 people were injured. The injuries were caused by the car stopping violently, and the riders slamming into their restraints. http://members.aol.com/rides911/2001.htm

Check it out.

Not to be picky or anything, but isn't *kicking* normally a "leg thing"...;)

Thanks for the answers. Hopefully it was only an injury and it'll re-open after they ensure it can't happen again.

It looks quite a fun coaster - better than Skytrak at Granada Studios which was - I think - the first flying coaster. It operated for only a short time before closing, though.

Rob, my friend from Ami (who took me to the park)showed me the newspaper report after the accident. He also showed me a report online (in Japanese) the day after the accident. I forget if one or two were killed, but I can sadly guarantee there was a death. I don't have any specific info handy right now, as I was getting it all through my friends there.

On Coastergallery there is a bit of info on the accident. Seems as if two cars collided and 2 were injured, one of the people died later of his/her injuries.
