How fast and high can a coaster be?
I'll probably get grilled for this, like with my "400 foot woodie?" topic, but I don't think there is a limit, except what people are willing to board. To that I would even say people will board almost anything! The GP will assume, "if they can open it to us, the GP, it must be safe for us, the GP!"
G forces can be controled by adjusting the angle of decent and probably other factors. In my mind, the only problem that would be difficult to overcome might be wind speed; or should I say, bug speed!

At 5 G's, people start to black out and at 10 G's people can die. I think roller coasters can go much higher without hurting people. The only restraint of height is cost. $25 million for MF is alot of money. I think they could build a 600 foot rideable roller coaster but I don't think they will any time soon because it would cost about $75 million. As for speed, I don't think a roller coaster could go much more than 130 MPH. It would really bang up the track and people would get hurt by bugs. How would you like to be going down a hill at 130 MPH and have a nice big hornet fly in your mouth? Doesn't sound good does it?

You are absolutely right, sir! Cost is the other hard to overcome factor!! The bug thing I mentioned in my post, also, although when I thought about it, I concluded that could be overcome also. There are two ways:
A) windshields
B) Airdams of some sort to redirect air and bugs in the air.

Well it depends, if you look at Millennium Force's Pull up from the first drop you can see how long it is. Thats so at 93 mph, it doesn't pull to many G's. A roller coaster can go as high as you want to build it. It will just have to have a very large pull up in order for the ride to be safe.

D'oh!! That's something else I hadn't thought of; the lift! Intamin had to design a completely new kind of lift for MF because of the height.
How about this; a series of conventional chain lifts. In other words you go up one lift of say, 200ft, go through a short drop and turnaround to hit another 200ft lift. That would get you at, or near 400ft. you could stop there or keep going, depending on your height goal. This way part of the lift could even be counted as an element!

Well, I'm not sure how high a coaster can go, but I'm pretty sure there is a speed limit on a conventional gravity-based coaster. Theres a speed, around 130 mph I believe, where wind resistance equals acceleration. So, unless a train was launched down a hill, that's how fast it could go.
As for height.....well, why don't you go look up the height of say, the CN Tower. :)
