Umm...Lifeguard Chair?

I came upon this strange picture of S:ROS at SFA's station. Whats that lifeguard chair doin there?

It is there so that on busy days an employee can watch for line jumping.

I regret to inform you that Lakemont Park is my homepark.

Dexter's correct,they use the chair to get a good view of the station platform to keep an eye out for line jumpers.

It would also help if the attendant stationed to that location would also be on the lookout for bottlenecks in S:ROS's line,of course everyone crowds around the airgates for the back seat making it next to impossible for those of us who prefer the front seat to get up there.

Yes, when is the park industry going to learn they need to make the qeue for the front and back cars considerably longer than the rest of the rows? Some parks do a good job on atleast some of their coasters, but in general...

Knotts has done a good job with this (except jaguar). Ghostrider's station has 2 queues for the front and back to the left and rigt in addition to middle car boarding after the turnstyle, and each holds about 50 people. Clearly MArked of course. Xcelerator's queue for the front holds well over 100 people and thus can add up to 60 minutes to a regular wait. It is clearly marked, but all the dumb people who can't read or have other issues fill it up (as if the line for front car suign read form 2 lines) not knowing the other line moves 4X as fast (and is even sometimes shorter than the front car's queue). Monte has a long front car queue. Jaguar on the other hand, my vote for worst station ever. The architecture calls for big humongous pillars supporting the coaster to block a bunch of the rows so it is impossible for neat rows to be formed, there is no depth to each row's little gate area, gates go all the way out the station each way, with about 1 foot between the wall and the gate.

Yeah that's at Knott's which is a CF park,but in the case of S:ROS this is SF we're talking about here.

Too bad that SF can't learn a little something about line management from their competition,owever you gotta give them a bit of credit for Roar's station design which places the entrance at the middle of the platform & from there it's just a short walk left for the front or right for the back.

That chair is there to watch for train collisions.

So... If a train is about to collide, the person on the chair does what exactly?

It is a good spot for taking picutres of the collision.

Well, since it's just a SFI employee, they learn how 2 manage a problem by ignoring it...;)

Because if it wasn't for that person in the chair...you may never know they crashed...

What exactly would you name that position?

(on a reality note, I agree more coasters need to have elongated front/back lines to help out. I can name numerous coasters we have waited for outside the que house, just to get in and walk right on the train in the middle)

I think the chair is there so if anybody starts drowning in the station the hunky-looking guy wearing the safari hat and a tank top with white sun screen on his face holding those binoculors can go save someone before they sink into the ride...forever.

Well, I'm not sure about the chair. BUT that guy in the front seat looks pretty scared to be coming into the station. Maybe that other train in front of him, out of the cameras sight, is too close for comfort!

It is not to look for colisions, IBGuy. Like I said in a previous post, it is for line jumpers on busy days. This is probibly due to the park trying to address past guest complaints about line jumpers. Collisions are prevented by the failsafe, computer controlled, magnetic braking system that was recently instaled by intimin.

When was the last time that coaster "collided" anyway?

I sure hope that breaking system doesn't break. I also hope that you'll know the difference between a brake and a break. I was joking previously. Anyway, yes, we all know it is for monitoring line jumping. Many parks have them. That one does appear to be out of place though.

this problem will hopefully be fixed next year on SROS, Wild One. and Jokers Jinx

I sumitted some drawings of other queue designs which worked totally well at other parks to operations, and they were well recieved, and they said they may be able to redesign the queues for next year.

Ok, this is CRITICAL!!! Everybody please read:

"Break" - to smash, split, or divide into parts violently; reduce to pieces or fragments. Forms of the word include:

broke, broken, breaking, breakable

"Brake" - a device for slowing or stopping a vehicle or other moving mechanism by the absorption or transfer of the energy of momentum, usually by means of friction. Forms of the word include:

braked, braking, brakeless

I am not picking on any one person. This is a common error that I hope to correct. Thus, Superman has a magnetic braking system.

Unless the braking system fails as it did at SFNE, then it could be a magnetic "breaking" system. The brakes are SFA were modified after that incident.

Indiana Beach Guy: The chair is positioned where it is so the the lower queue and stairs are also visible from the chair.
