Where can I find a bunch of old coaster lumber?

I'm looking to buy a bunch of lumber from an old roller coaster. I'm going to build a home bar in our rec room where we display all our coaster and amusement park stuff. If anyone can help PLMK thanks.

Maybe if you asked the park they may let you know when they replace wood on a coaster. They have nothing better to do with it and may just give it to you so that it is off their backs.

Yes and most of it is in the bottom of the turn around helix. So you could risk life and limb and sneak in there from the washington street enterance.

Isn't RWB getting retracked, too? You could go steal some of the new wood. j/k BTW, what did Knott's do with Windjammer's wreckage?

I talked with the Dippin' Dots guy and he assured me that Cedar Point was to get that 10-inversion terra-woodie-invert-stand-up because Magnum is sinking. The current construction is for the new super-Dippin' Dots stall he is to run.

Hey now! that's my little Eaglet you're talking about. One of only 4 coasters in the world (so far) that get an almost unobtainable nearly perfect "10" on the Gilmanometer. Yes, it's that good! ;)

Talk to companies such as GCI who do retracking. If they are doing a job nearby, they might no mind avoiding some of the disposal cost. Remember though that any lumber that is at all recent is probably pressure treated and should be handled accordingly. Pressure treating chemicals can be pretty toxic.

Also, if it's old it probably has lead paint on it.

Be forewarned... don't expect parks to have a lumber yard in their back area somewhere full of old wood scraps... they typicaly dispose of it right away.

If you're very serious, make a contact at a local park. Find out their procedures for disposing of timber that is removed when a coaster is retracked or rebuilt. Most woodies (at least at upstanding parks) are partially rebuilt every season and I can tell you that all that wood goes to the landfill. If you can arrange with a park to be there when they are removing the wood, most likely you will be able to have it. Better yet, make a friend who's a carpenter at a park--then you'll get it for sure!
Bear in mind--this is the season for rebuilding...
