Question for Shaggy or anyone who know PKI well?

My friend Derek told me that Racer was reprofiled in 2001 on that intense speed bump before the turnaround. Is that true? I rode it during the last week before Labor Day and it seemed tamer than when I rode it in 2000! :-(

No, not re-profiled. The coaster received some re-tracking, but that is it.

I did noticed something last time I rode (I dont know how long its been there) but there is a brake right before you start the turnaround. I have never felt it used, or even seen it, but its there.

No, the chainlift is on the hill before the two sides split off for the turn around. It only has a chain operating in the spring. The brake on the start of the turnaround has been there for as far as I can remember. I think that sometimes it is used as when trains are racing, neck and neck, all of a sudden one side will be way behind.

The chain lift is used in cooler months. The train has been known to valley in that area without some help. The chain is not used during peak months.

The brake on the turnaround has, as someone else said, been there as long as I can remember. It has nothing to do with the trains racing, and everything to do with harnessing the speed prior to the turnaround.

The chain was not even attached to the sprocket this year when I went. Not even opening day when it was about 45 degrees?

I didn't know that was a chain lift. I always thought it was a long strip of notches for the chain dog. Hm, live and learn.

I thought only my RCT coasters had chain lifts at the tops of hills. ;)

Magnum Force, once the cold weatheris over the park removes the chain and places it on one of the sides of the antirollback dogs. I`m fairly certain that on opening day the chain lift on the hill was working on the frigid opening day this year.

Donny S, I believe that the second lift of The Beast has one chain. However, I think that there are about three or four gears going up the second hill that make a specific clankity clank sound. I don`t know the purpose of these gears, but I`m pretty sure that they have catch basins for the grease.

I don't think the brake was on or if it was when I rode it it wasn't very tight. I don't think Racer's brakes are anywhere near as bad as the ones on High Roller @ Valleyfair.

I know that the clankity clank sound is the antirollbacks, but there is another clankity sound which can be heard if you ride in the front ot back, caused by gears. I believe that there are three or four of these gears on the second lift.
