best of the small parks

I'll throw in my vote for Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Not much can compete with the atmosphere of this place. Giant Dipper is still one of the best wooden coasters anywhere.

Six Flags America, home to world class rides such as Superman: Ride of Steel, Jokers Jinx, and Roar. I think this park is completely overlooked, but I think it is better than a lot of big parks I've been to.

Fun Spot is a sad excuse for a park. I thought it was bad when I was 9! Although Afterburner is somewhat exciting, it suffers much down time.

What's the defintion of small. When people start throwing out parks like VF and SFA I get confused.

With the way parks go around here (in Pittsburgh)... by all means I do not consider Kennywood a small park... If you want a really big park you gotta drive all the way to CP.

West of the Mississippi? You have to go to Lakeside in Denver! Talk about a whole park experience! Second place would have to go to Castle Park in Riverside,CA. If it had a coaster it would place higher, but the way this park is built makes you take notice.

I have enjoyed three small parks.

1. Lakeside (Denver)
2. Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
3. Funtown USA (Excalibur is great)

I think that Lakeside is great. Even though it has a bad reputation, I think its great. The downside is it looks as if its about to close all the time.

I guess I won't knock Afterburner any more, I just found out it was originally built in 1977!

I've only been to one small park and that was Americana back in 1996. I really didn't like it because it was so dirty and the rides, including the Screechin' Eagle, looked like they were about to fall apart. Since Americana now has a new owner, I plan on going over there to visit the park now that he has had the park cleaned up. I've read somewhere that the Screechin' Eagle had gotten new PTC trains in 1998, is that true? (God, I sounded like Chris Farley there. :))

Knoebel's, I love everything about the park. I wish I was a lot closer to the park. The rides, the food, the people, and the rings from the carousel are all great!

Not Too Shabby For A Summer

I really enjoyed Canobie Lake in Salem, New Hampshire. Half of the rides there are more than 70 years old! It is a pleasant atmosphere, and Yankee Cannonball is great!

Ah many fond memories of Boblo Island.

I like Idle Wild in Penn. Its covered in trees, and has a lot of spinning rides, 2 coasters, a wild mouse and a out and back no seat belt woodie.
But what I loved was the Mister Rogers' Neighborhood ride. My little brother and sisters loved it. Last year, they got a new water park that's great! Oh, I almost for got, story book forest was another good area of the park the kids liked. Ya got'a go there!

The only small park I hit is The Pavilion at Myrtle Beach. For something like $20 you can ride the Hurricane basically as many times as you can while the park's open. Some tourists will ride it once and then go on. You have a nice view while you wait, and even on the busiest type of weekend, you never have to wait long. They also have the Arrow Mad Mouse, that's not bad. There's also a scrambler ride that's in the middle of the Hurricane's final helix, as you go through it's fun to watch the scrambler from the coaster if it's moving, nice effect (I've said that before so I'm shutting up now). Other than a really funny Catepillar ride, it's all spin and puke. $20 for all I can ride Hurricane will always keep it as my favorite small spot. I can't say I've waited more than 10 minutes more than twice. You get your rides in fairly quick.
