is CalTech good?

cause the counselor at my school said that if I wanted to do really well I should go either there or MIT

if its good enough ill probably go there cause its closer... I don't wanna move too far away

Funny, I'm debating between ME and AE at Georgia Tech. In-state tuition for one of the best engineering programs in the country ain't to shabby. I'm not aiming for a coaster design job, but if it's there, I'll gladly take it.

Interesting bit is that most of the recent non-aneurysm research on roller-coasters has been done by biomeds looking at the mechanics of it all and their ramifications.

CalTech is very elite, very good, and almost impossible to get into. Often though companies looking for practical engineers rather than college professors would prefer engineers from the second tier of engineering schools, who tend to be a bit less theoretical and more practical.

As a college professor with an engineering degree from Berkeley, I resemble that remark!

It's my goal to achieve a position in the amusement industry, but for now I gotta conectrate on surviving my first year of civil engineering. All I can say is that you have to be willing to commit to quite a lot of work if you decide to go into it. The program is seriously demanding, well at least where I attend I find it to be tough. I still don't like the idea of 8am classes, still used to the old highschool schedule.

I am also going to design rollercoasters when I grow up. I am a freshman in high school and I am trying to take all the classes I can that will help me get into a very good engineering school. I am very good at math and am taking physical science this year.

I also live near the Gravity Group so I can get an internship there when I graduate (Hopefully). I am not really interested in designing wooden coasters though because there are alot of limitations in design. I would rather be a park manager but RollerCoaster design pays more.

VISIT IT!

Thanks for all of the imput. I live in New York and right now I'm looking at colleges that offer civil engineering. That seems to be the most taken among roller coaster designers.

University at Buffalo (my alma mater :)) has an awesome Civ E program. I dunno if you were planning to move out of state or what, but if you want a valuable, affordable, *fun* four years....give UB a thought. I could also tell you what professors to look out for...since all engineers are hoarded together for the first two years.
