How does Tower of Terror at Walt Disney World work? Who built it? When was it built?

Has some information on how the special effects, and some of the mechanical properties of the attraction work.

I believe the ride uses the same motors for the lift cables, as the World Trade Center used.

It's a high speed elevator motor that pulls you up and down. It's not a freefall, it's faster.

WDI (Walt Disney Imagineering) designed and built the ride with the help form a "major elevator manufacturer."

If I remember correctly, the elevator company was Otis.

D'oh...:)....Miami probably is the repair/maintenance folks....good call, XMP.

It was Otis elevator, which is located in Bloomington, IN. My uncle works for them and was one of the designers of the mold for the elevator vehicle.

Elisha Otis was the guy who made the elevator safe and practical for regular use. He didn't invent it, he just made it better (like those old BOSE commercials). That's where the Otis in Otis Elevator Co. came from.

as for the designers it was Walt Disney Imagineering, so it was basically an in-house job that contracted out for certain portions of the project.

Mostly off-topic, but does anyone find it funny that many escalators are made by the Schindler Company? You know, the same company that purposefully made *non-working* shells and weapons during WWII? :) Maybe you better take the stairs...

Otis is right down the street from where I live. If it was Otis, then another ride like ToT won't be built again. Otis is closing pretty soon. Another company would have to build it.
