How can you 'hate' a coaster?

Any ride that hurts my wife and causes her to complain for the rest of the day, I truly despise. Married folks with non-enthusiast wives will understand what I'm talking about.

Yes, there are coasters I "hate," just as there are some that I "love" (and no, I don't want to marry them). The list of rides I "hate" is also way shorter than those I "love."

I "hate" the Wolverine Wildcat and Shockwave. That's the whole list.

I "love" the Cornball Express, Legend, Phantom's Revenge, X,...

I HATE Corkscrew at Cedar Point. I have never been as uncomfortable on a coaster as I was on CS. The seats were horrible. They had absolutely no padding and I got a good thrashing, which never happens to me. I actually came off of the coaster with a hurting back, which also never happens. As someone else said, it is hard not to hate a coaster that hurts you.

I guess I don't hate any coaster, but there are some out there that I would have to be forced against my will to ride again. But I doubt there is as much hate of coasters around as some people think. Not liking a coaster or giving it a negative review is NOT the same as hating it.

I think that "hate" is a pretty strong word. However, Wolverine Wildcat is my one ride that is a close candidate. Of all the coasters I've ever ridden, it is the ONLY one that I got off of thinking it might have more utility as firewood.

I don't expect a woodie to be like riding on rails of glass, but come on! My brain was still rattling for the next hour. I would even cut it some slack if there were exciting elements in the ride, but there aren't (OK, the pre-lift tunnel is cool, but that's about it).

ahhhh, yes.....BUT, in Jill's defense, she is enough of an enthusiast to be able to predict some of those rides in advance, and I rode those alone....PKD's Shockwave comes immediately to mind - BTW, she was right, what was I thinking....of course it was a walk-on....and the back row probably wasn't my best choice either...;).

The old OL:FoFs (V1.0) joined the short list, as did "The Boy Wonder", Robin:Chiller, back when it had OTSRs, and the "early" Sonny-boy. Now, I will say that I have a much harder time "accepting" a coaster that I had ridden in its previous incarnation as a better ride....Mean Streak really WAS a much, much better ride not that long ago, as was Maggie before the trims on the pretzel turnaround were set to "STOP". I don't remember Psyclone as being truly awful until this year's visit....

Hate 'em, nah, just don't ride them after getting the one ESSENTIAL spin.....

Amen to that! couldnt agree with you more, just avoid using that word. There are several things in our lives that we can say we "hate," but I dont think coasters should be any of those from anyone on this messageboard.

I agree, with Goku, if I had to hae a coaster it would definetly Vekoma. Let's jst say I'm not the biggest fan of there rides. Why dont they just they name all of there coasters Attack of the fierce clones. Except for some, they are all clones!!! Hopefully they won't take over the world someday!!

The only way to hate a coaster, in my opinion, if it gave you a terrible ride.

If you were getting your head bashed throughout the ride, not having any fun, and would never ride it again, I guess you could say you hate that ride.

Then again, if there is a ride like that, then maybe is shouldn't be around anymore...=/

When riding a coaster that causes pain I no longer admire it.

I have to say I hate both SLC's I have ridden, T2 and Serial Thriller. They simply terrify me, after over 100 coasters these are the only 2 I "hate." I hate them because they scare the crap out of me, they throw you forward and backwards and make you feel as if you are going to be thrown out at any moment. I can handle that feeling ona wooden coaster or heck even a steel sitdown, but on an invert heck no. I usually give them a ride if I am there, after my last ride on ST, never again.

People need to learn to enjoy a coaster for what it is, not what it isn't. Nobody would hate a coaster if they could just do this simple thing.

AirTimeMan, are you saying we should all try to find and grow our masochistic tendencies so that we can enjoy rides that cause us discomfort and or pain? I'll just sit that ride out or head for a ride that is fun.

The only thing that can make me hate a coaster is if it's unbearably painful, no thrills, nothing fun, just pain. This has only ever happened to me once... Backseat of Screamin Eagle @ SFSL. At the bottom of every single hill, I felt like my spine was about to snap. It's the first time I have ever wanted a coaster to end. Other than that, I love coasters!

I think it is easy to understand why some enthusiasts can love some coasters and hate others. I would argue that the opposite of love is not hate, rather apathy. Hence, love and hate, both strong emotions, are closer to each other than we think they are. A coaster enthusiast is someone who has a passion for riding coasters, someone who will have strong feelings for coasters. To me it is no surprise that many enthusiasts will exhibit strong feelings one way or the other.

I hope that makes sense.

What aggrivates me is as others have stated, those who feel you should love *every* ride, strictly because it's a coaster. If I'm gonna hate a ride, I'm gonna hate it, regardless of how much others praise it. Honestly though, I can't think of any rides I truly hate...except maybe that big green hunk of steel in Sandusky.;) (let's see how many replies I get after that one)
