How do you think Disney would do in Ohio?

Ok i know what i read was a rumor but i was just wondering since everyone says CP does not get affected by SFO. How do you think the ohio parks would fair against disney. The rumor is disney bought 100 of acres in ashtabula county ohio. Ok
say they open disney winterland(came up with name not real) along with a blizzard beach type water park. Now before you go saying they wont make money in ohio because of the winter they can close after halloween and open for a week or 2 before x-mas where they can have a real x-mas parade with real snow, as for the rides most are indoors anyway they can open just a few. Anyway the winter gives them time for park improvements and no ride would have to be down during its open season for refurb. As for other winter stuff they can open disney ski lodge. Do you think this would impact the other parks, that we would see some of the smaller ones fall of the map. Remember this was just a rumor and i was just throwing a ? out there, it goes to effecting all parks in Ohio not just CP.

If Disney was smart they would build a Disney Quest in Ohio which is an indoor virtual theme park. They opened one up in Chicago a couple of years ago and its a big success. By doing this they arent in competition with the regular outdoor amusement parks. Its a win-win situation.

Hi Chitown how is that disneyquest is it exactly the same as orlando's because that rock's, you cant beat making your on rollercoaster. Im thinking about going to the chicago one just to get my rollercoaster fix for the month.

i think it would have little or no effect on the point.

supermandl, I have heard its almost identical to the one in Orlando. Its an awesome experience to the people that have never been to one. It helps relieve the winter blues for coastering.

Here in Fayette County, PA (south of Pittsburgh), we had a similar rumour. Word was that Disney had bought some land in the Laurel Highlands ridges and planned to build a major ski resort. There was even gossip about a "Toontown" park being built.

I'm guessing your rumour will turn out to be just like ours: Just that, a rumour.

I'd personally love to be able to take my kids to a Disney park without having to travel either half the country south or more than half west. I don't think I'd bother if it was an indoor arcade style place though.

Ohio is already theme park saturated (I know, CA and FL are too).

Disney doesn't really cater to thrillseekers but appeals mainly to family entertainment. And with Disney's high marketability, I'm sure it would be a success here.

Point Blank, Disney could go to west South Dakota and be a success. I think they proved that by turning a swamp into the most theme park saturated area in the world. *IF* (emphasis added) they decided to invade the Ohio Market, then all the other parks should have some trepidation. Disney would quickly dominate the 'family' demographic, especially those with younger kids. Sorry, Mickey is the most powerful rodent in the world.

I think Disney would clean house in Ohio. Ohioans seem to love their theme parks, and with the Disney name on one, I think it could have two rides and a bevy of shops and it would do well. Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but with the Disney name on any new park, wherever it may be, I think it would spell success. Peace. :)

Does Disney run any seasonal parks?

This is reality. Disney would meet major competition in Ohio. Cedar Point would not wait and see, nor would Busch with Sea World. And SF did not spend that money for fun. Disney is a different ballgame with entertainment, but if they built something that operated year-round but had hard rides, there would be some re-thinking of some parks strategy.

And if they intended to be int he sports field, you can bet the Jacobs family with the Indians and the new Browns and the teams from Cincy would be up in arms.

Remember, they are building in a blue collar area with an established pattern of vacations. This is not soCal or Orlando where they come by the plane load day after day. You would probably see Charlie Brown, Bugs Bunny, and a Klingon riding in a car with Shamu driving trying to run Mikey of the Ohio turnpike. All for fun.

I also remember a similar rumor about Virginia and Maryland making a "Disney's American Adventure" type thing tying in with DC. I think this rumor still floats around though. I think Ohio would be the best bet for Disney. It's the "heart" and probobly the 3rd biggest amusement park area in the nation after CA and FL. Hopefully, they would make this park special though. I would love a Magic Kingdom/Disney Studios(and a Test Track and Tough to be a Bug would be nice).

Bcdzoom that was not a rumor(Disney in Virginia) it was true. In a Disney book of my there is a chapter on the Virginia Disney park. The park was not built because locals didn't like the idea.

Actually, isn't Disney more about providing a whole EXPERIENCE? PKI, CP and SFO are - in my opinion - mainly thrill parks where people predominantly go to ride the rides. When I think of Disney, I don't think about going for the fantastic rides (not that I'm discounting them). I think about the WHOLE package - the gardens, the shows, the rich quality of everything....the MAGIC atmosphere. With that in mind, I don't think Disney would butt heads with any existing Ohio parks.

AHH! Who wouldn't want a Disney park in their state? I would have let them have my back yard if they needed it. I love Disney!
