Parks Quality vs Quantity
I'll take a park with *ONE* great coaster, even if the others aren't as good. That's why I don't understand the whole "quality vs quantity" number. If a park has 54 coasters, and 14 of them are great, that's more than enough for me. Even the other coasters would be of interest to me, because I LOVE ROLLERCOASTERS, period. I love the great ones, like the good ones and tolerate the bad ones. How many times do you skip the rollercoasters you don't like, but still notice other people enjoying them? Who are we to decide what's quality for them?

I definitely agree, Simcoaster. Now, when you say *mediocre*,I think this term is used too loosely in the coaster world. Just because one may find a coaster mediocre, doesnt mean that everyone will find it mediocre. It depends on the person and their tastes. But to reiterate what Simcoaster said..If I knew a park had such and such coasters but only a certain amount was good, I would still go, plain and simple. A park would have to have all horrible rides for me to NOT go.

One thing people miss in this whole discussion is that part of the charm in parks like IOA and Holiday world is that they DON'T have tons of coasters. It makes the ones they do have more special. If they were to all of a sudden add 9 coasters, you had better believe some of them would be duds. And some probably wouldn't get the TLC that they need. It goes with the territory.

the point is being missed.
what do you prefer:
a park that has 25 rides, 4-5 great coasters and a mixture of other rides and shows, all good.
or a park that has 10+ coasters. a few good, most are below average as well as tons of other rides, some good, some not so good.
I don't think it is possible to make this comparison, because the first park mentioned ends up having 4-5 great coasters and 20+ other great rides.
the second park ends up having 4-5 good coasters and 20+ other great rides, with lots of junk rides you can just skip.
no reason to compare. go to both and ride twice as many.

The problem is that coaster opinions vary from person to person. I don't know how many times people have told me that Cedar Creek Mine Ride or Iron Dragon are lame. For some people, I'm sure it is. However, when you see those little kids get off the ride smiling, you start to realize that nearly every coaster has its purpose and audience.
I've yet to visit a park with ten coasters that didn't have several gems, by the way.

I would have to agree with Jeff. Enthusiast are not the only people who visit these parks. Cedar Point is a great place to visit because the the AMOUNT of coasters they have. Now myself, I will only ride the FEARSOME FIVE (magnum, mantis, mean streak, raptor) and some others. But because Cedar Point has so many coasters you choose from with different ranges of size and type, you can start off on Woodstock Express or on Gemini. Smaller rides to me may not have any quality but to others it does.
