Hands in the air?

Why do parks show riders with their hands in the cars in advertisements when they know that almost everyone will ride with their hands in the air? I think that it makes the coaster look more fun when everyone has their hands in the air. Even a lot of the coaster shows show the riders with their hands in the cars like good little riders.

Liability. Park rules state that all riders must hold onto handlebars. That policy saved Cedar Fair in the Perilous Plunge incident.

My two favorite coasters are named Superman.

I prefer to put my arms behind my back and recline as if the roller coaster is my lazy boy. It's actually quite comforatable.;)

I like just sit there, relaxed, no arms in the air, but not holding on, no screaming or shouting, just soaking up the experience

Yes, on all of CF's latest videos on the Knotts site, All the PP riders have their hands on the grab bar, supreme scream riders do too, and on Xcelerator they yell like you will die if you put your hands up pre launch. They coulf care less if you put them up on the tower.

Isn't the Perilous Plunge case still in court though?

Ya, I don't think it matters, if no one gets hurt than no one really cares about having the hands up, Flight of Fear ops don't care if you put your hands up for th elaunch I'm the only moron to do it.

I personally put my hands up on every ride I go on (including Millennium Force). Hands down, holding on is obviously the safer way to ride, but what enthusiast hangs on for dear life? I just don't know about the possibility of putting up your hands on Hypersonic XLC.

I don't put my hands up for the experience or just not holding on, I raise em to air out my armpits. One day at a park, no deodarent, means stinky pits. =/

I raise my arms up sometimes, but when I ride a new ride I keep em down to enjoy the experience further.

Usually, I let my hands hang free and let the coaster's momentum raise them at will. Lots of fun.

The only ride I've ever held on to for dear life was Batwing at SFA. It was my first flying coaster, so I was scared witless when we flipped over. Stupid me, though, I forgot that I was wearing sandals until we flipped and I felt them sliding off my feet. Blarg.

I'm not sure what year it was from, but a Dorney Park brochure showing the Laser on the cover was altered to remove an obscene hand gesture from one of the riders. It might have been the year that they introduced the Laser, because it was the feature attraction. Photo editing has come a long way since then, but it was noticable that this person's finger was removed.

I always put my hands in the air for the first drop. I also try to keep my lapbar as loose as safely possible to increase the airtime.

What a Combo!

It's always fun to just try to sit there with your arms folded, kind of leaning foward. This way you feel all the forces. Trying to resist them is great. Try doing this in SROS's helixes!

I lost my hat on Poison Ivy. How pathetic.

i have my hands in the air, if possible and if not in my lap. never touching the restraint. ever. if the ride is really good i'll start yelling and clapping and going nuts. my first ride on superman SFDL this year was like this.

While working at WOF, after CF took over, they made a point of redoing any pictures we had that showed riders with their hands up. (from HME era) They made this a priority at all of their parks. During filming on t-wolf, everyone (employees were being used) was required to keep their hands down.)
