Bobsled Coasters

Hello guys, it's me again. Um... I was wondering if any of you all knew how a "bobsled" roller coaster stayed on the track. I know it doesnt use the three wheel system (road, side-friction or guide, and upstop). Or does it, because I heard that it is just like the old coasters with out rail-hugging wheels. If so, then howcome they are so safe?

And, if any of you know what the layout of CP's Disaster Transport is, then let me know. Thanks

The bobsled cars have road wheels and side guide wheels, but neither are tied directly to the track.

On bobsled roller coasters, like Disaster Transport, there are steel "lips" on the sides of the track, so that if the train were to spin out of control, it would not fall out of the trough. Also, bobsled coasters are engineered, so that if they have an upward hill, the train will not fly off the track when the track levels out. There usually aren't any covers over the trough, but they aren't needed because they are engineered so that they wont fly off the track.

As you can see in http://rcdb.com/installationgallery282.htm?Picture=3 that picture, the track somewhat folds over preventing the coaster from sliding to close to the edge. The rest is gravity like coasterfreaky said.

that's why you never really have any camelbacks on them. Just have to engineer them like you did with the old side-frcition coasters, or at least something similar.

Anybody know why the difference in track styles? The arrow boblsleds have smooth track and the Mack tracks, like the link above, have striated tracks. Is it because of water buildup?

Edit: Intamin bobsleds not Arrow.

Arrow doesn't make bobsled coasters. According to RCDB, Mack and Intamin are the only roller coaster companies that design and build bobsled roller coasters.
