S:ROS (SFNE)- new brake system after '01 accident?

I don't remember seeing rubber car-like tires sticking up in the brake run in years past. Reason why I mention this- the smell of burning rubber everytime I rode S:ROS a few days ago. Perhaps I was just more aware this year while riding, especially when entering the brake run before the station. S:ROS gets gets better with every ride I swear!!

I'm pretty sure those drive wheels have always been there. Afaik, the only modifications were to the pneumatic lines that kept the brakes in place.

A rollercoaster? What's that?

I've never been to SFNE, so I can't tell you what has been there and what hasn't, though I do know that the other big new Intamin coasters I have ridden (Millennium Force and the S:ROS at Darien Lake) do have advancing tires on the brake run.

If you visit my site there is a page listed under the picture of a Runaway Train wheel assembly entitled, "What happened to Superman: Ride of Steel". That page gives some unconfirmed speculation on how the incident happened, along with a copy of the official press release that came from the park after the incident.

Of all the incidents that I can think of, that is the only incident I can think of where the park very quickly explained the cause of the incident and the steps taken to correct the situation, in great detail, almost immediately after the incident. I was pleased and surprised and I think the credibility of other parks might improve a bit if they would do the same.

They replaced plastic air supply hoses with black, steel reinforced ones. You can tell the advancing tires have been there since 2000 because they are very bald. You can see some pics from this year on my site: www.sfne.zzn.com in the photo gallery.

And every time the train goes into the brakes, it doesn't really come to a complete stop until the very end of the brakes. Every time I get freaked out, and think it's going to crash.

And the smell I think is the new wheels.

I lost my hat on Poison Ivy. How pathetic.

From what I understand, the magnetic brakes will stop a coaster from a very high speed, but because of physics, the can never completely stop the coaster or ride. This is why S:ROS and MF use the wheels to completely stop the train if needed. On the drop towers the cars are slowed down by the brakes and then stopped by some sort of pneumatic or hydrolic plungers. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong

S:KOS how do you figure they got new kicker wheels? Those things are bald as all heck.
