PTC Trains

I'm completely lost in the wood train department. Do PTC trains have 2 or 3 rows? What kind of trains run on the Boss, screaming eagle and on Viper at SFGAm. and american eagle?

PTC trains can have 2 or 3 rows. A great example of these 2 type of trains can be found at SFOT where the Giant has 2 row trains and Judge has 3 row trains.

One difference between both of the trains is that the three row trains use a different, older system of raising and lowering the lap bars. Three-row trains use electrically powered solenoids to lock/unlock while two row train use actuators on the sides of the cars that are pushed in by bars in the station. When pushed in, the lap bars are unlocked, and when the actuators retract, the lap bars will lock. this is very similar to Schwarzkopf trains.

At SFStL the Screamin' Eagle runs PTC trains, I think only two bench trains. The Boss runs the Gerstlaur trains (hope that spelling is right). Personally I prefer the PTC's, and it appears that Holiday World does too.

now for the quiz portion of our thread....I heard recently of a STEEL coaster that runs PTC trains.....which coaster is it?

That's because PTC made some steel coaster trains, which look like, IMO, total and utter crap. They look like steel boxes.

There were also the big 4-bench PTC trains. The Texas Cyclone and Beast had them when they opened. The Beast had a huge 5-car long (40 peep train!) that was painted red in the front and faded to "spring green" in the back. I don't think that 5th car lasted too long though.

There is a steel coaster that uses PTC steel trains. It's the Texas Tornado at Wonderland Amusement Park in Texas.

I don't mean to doubt you but I beleive Viper at SFGAM which runs 3 bench PTC trains doesn't have the electrically powered solenoids. I think the newer 3 bench trains cans have the actuators on the cars. The American Eagle which has older trains does have the electrically powered solenoids. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Im all most positive that The Mighty Canadian Minebuster has actuators and it has three bench cars.

PTC is the acronym for Philadelphia Toboggan Company.

I looked it up, and C really is for Coasters and not company, although it used to be Philadelphia Toboggan Company.

Oh, I see now. That sounds bad... no ring to it. I'll always call them PT Comanyout of habit.

Has anybody ridden the Texas Tornado, I've seen what the steel PTC cars look like and they're, well not much to look at but are they comfy, do they have otsr, and do they improve the ride?

I've seen the Texas Tornado lead car (at the IAAPA trade show). It's a 2-bench fully-articulated properly trailered car. Inside it has a lap bar that looks a bit like the ones on Arrow's trains. But it has the upholstered seats that you find on the nicest PTC wood coaster trains.
It looked to me like it ought to run OK, but most important would be the most comfortable steel coaster train ever built!

I'd like to hear from someone who has ridden in the darned thing...

Back in the day when PTC was designing and building coasters, they were the "other" PTC (Company)...I *think* the name change came a few years after they went to strictly trains/tracks. Now I think the company only works on trains. (I could be off on this, so please correct me if I'm off somewhere).

When you've been around that long, you need to be able to "evolve"....right now I'd take their wooden trains over any others I've ridden, by a considerable margin....

Hasn't PTC made a train with four benches per car before?
