Height limits

Does hersheypark have a height limit? i was there recently and i noticed that most of the rides didnt exceed 100 feet.

also, what are some the height limits for parks around the country.

I used to be afraid of heights, then Millenium Force happened.

SFGAm can't build anything above the Sky Trek Tower, which I belive is 330 feet tall. They need to get permission from the city if they build above a height which is significantly lower than that, but I've heard 330 is max.

SFA's maximum height restriction for how tall attractions can be built is 200 ft. and not so much as a foot more.

CP has no restrictions.

I would think most parks not in a city would have no restrictions.

Does Kings Island? I dought it because it built drop zone and SOB....but i diont know

SFMW has a height restriction, thats why they had to remodel it, too tall, thats one of the reasons anyway

it think its odd that Knotts Berry farm can build a 310' tower in the middle of a neighborhood. seriosly,the park is like 30 meters from houses.

My home park Valleyfair has heigh restrictions because of Flying Cloud airport across the river. I belive the highest we'll be able to go would be 275feet. Power Tower was originaly supposed to be 300feet but it had to be shorten. So if we want to get anything higher they might have to fight it out with the airport. I would think all parks would have some height restrictions.

Yeah, about the Knott's subject, that was surprising that they were allowed to build Xcelerator. But they are using a PLC instead of LIM's so it should be much quieter and they also filled the coaster with sand to quiet it down. This coaster looks amazing and can't wait to ride it during CoasterCon!

xcelerator will be as quiet as windjammer, or quieter. its just those screaming riders. they can be very annoying. at least knotts doesn't use scream shields like DCA.

Ghostrider has scream shields.

The park should be able to build as tall as they want. if its that big of a problem, just set up no fly zones around parks with really tall rides, it would make more sense than to limit how tall a park can build their ride.

Back to the origninal question. I don't know if Hershey has a height limitation. However, Herco and its board have enough clout politically in the area that they should be able to change any height restrictions except FAA restrictions. I don't blieve that they have any FAA issues. The simple fact is that Hershey's orientation is towards being a really nice family park, not to having the biggest and baddest thrill rides. I think that this phylosophy is why their rides have not reached super heights.

I guess it would depend on what level they begin calculating from. If the Max was 200ft from the ground, then what if there was a large hill. If Ninja is built atop the "mountain", at 60ft tall in structure, is it still under 200ft? Even if it sticks higher into the air than the 250+ ft Goliath? Conversly, If a 250ft coaster is built inside a 60ft pit, does it clear the 200ft Max? Hmmmmm. Just a rambling thought.

rcdb may list SROS at SFA as 208' but Six Flags only claims 200' even, and that's how all on the paperwork with the authorities was filed. I don't know what rules were applied in developing the reference elevation. The 200' limit is imposed by Prince George's County. It is not due to the proximity of Andrews Air Force Base as someone said in another recent thread.

Well how can this be? if SFA has gone 8 feet above the maximum height allowed by the county than wouldn't they complain and perhaps order some modifications ala V2 @SFMW or worse request SFA to tear down the coaster all together?

For hersheypark, the height limit can't be 100 ft because the highest point on Great Bear is 124ft. Later!

I said that most did not exceed 100 feet, not that they werent allowed to build above 100 feet.

Great Bear is not 124' tall the lift is like 90' but the drop is 124' because it was like on a hill maybe. I was wondering when I was going up the lift why it didn't look tall but after the turn around you see the drop like coming off the hill and realize it's kinda tall.
