Indiana Beach and Adventureland (IA) Questions

Hey All of You!,

I have been on the board for a little while. I am taking a trip with a friend to Indiana Beach this summer. I was wondering what are everybody's thoughts on the park?? What should I expect?? How are the rollercoasters?? My family may also take a trip to Adventureland in Iowa this summer. Same questions for that park. If anyone could please help me out here, that would be GREAT!

Thanks!

I'll give you my 2 cents based on my 1 trip there last year. All the coasters at IB are fun. Hoosier Hurricane and Cornball Express (I hate that name) are excellent wooden coasters. The park itself is is more of a carnival rather than an amusement park. You pay for everything separately so you can control your costs a little better than a traditional park. The atmosphere and location on Lake Shafer is great and being on the lake there's also water attractions like slides and boat rides. It's a fun time overall. I would say that if possible, don't go to IB until after Superstition Mountain opens. That appears to be another winner for IB.

I've never been to Adventureland so no comment.

IB is one of my favorite parks, and there really is nowhere else I'd rather spend a day. The place has great rides, and (more importantly) loads of atmosphere.

Cornball Express is one of the best coasters I've been on. It has everything: great ejector air, slamming laterals, and a unique layout.

The Hoosier Hurricane is a good, fun out and back coaster. It's not on the same tier as CE, but it sounds as if the off-season work was a success and that it's running great.

The Tigg'r is a great Schwarzkopf Jet Star that runs wild with no restraints.

There are some great flat rides positioned on the lake, and the bumper cars run well (my second favorite after Knoebel's).

There are two dark attractions: Den of Lost Thieves is a pretty cool "shoot 'em up" interactive ride, and The Haunted Castle is a well done, wel-maintained walk through. Definitely worth the extra money, as it's not included on the POP.

The food is pretty good for park food, and the the POP is a great deal. I think it's $16/session this year.

I'd recommend going for the 4pm - 11pm session, as the park looks absolutely fabulous at night.

Throw in the highly anticipated LoCoSuMo, and you really can't go wrong.

And there's a lot of really big carp...

I can help you out with Adventureland

Dragon-Kind of boring and short double looping coaster. A little bit rough to

Tornado-out and back wooden, decent ride

Outlaw-A CCI wooden with some tight turns, good ride

Underground-not really a coaster, more of a dark mine ride

The best part about Adventureland is the short lines.

Look on the website for more info about the park and its rides.

Adventureland is my homepark, so if you have any specific questions, e-mail me (matt5150@iastate.edu).
It's a great park and definitely worth a visit if you've never been. If you're looking for exciting steel coasters, it's not the place for you, but there are two good woodies and the Underground is a gravity -driven wooden track dark ride like Lost Coaster, but no major hills. But it picks up some good speed and whips you around the turns.
Make sure to be at the park at night when it's lit up and the crowds are really light. The Tornado and Outlaw are pretty darn good at the end of the day. The Tornado picks up some airtime and gives the Outlaw some tough competition. Be sure to check the website for operating hours as they vary throughout the week. A Sunday would be a good time to go as the park stays open until 10pm during the mid summer, and the crowds will be lighter than on Saturday. There's a great selection of rides and there's minimal theming, so it's more of a traditional park.
Like I said, just e-mail me if you have any specific questions. Be sure to hold off on your visit until the end of May or June so the park will be open later.

While for the most part there is minimal theming at Adventureland I am still impressed by their main street as you enter the park, and I think the Outlaw Gulch was done pretty well as well.

For the most part I got to agree with Matt as I think he nailed most of the points, but just remember to stop by the Giant Pig (you'll see it) and grab a pork burger. Good stuff.

Wow! Thanks you guys for the great info. I know that these are smaller size parks but I am already very intrigued to visit the both of them. Matt Scott.. I probably will try contacting you when the time comes closer. Thanks again!

LOL, I forgot about the giant pig. Also, there's a new water ride this year--first of its kind in the US (I love park hype). The really neat thing about Adventureland is the sky ride (ski lift). It takes you diagonally from one corner of the park to another and goes right through the trees which are sculpted around the ride path, but your feet can drag across the trees and you can grab the leaves (that's how close you are). It's a neat experience.
Also, from what I remember, the food is still fairly inexpensive and they have some really tastey funnel cakes and an old fashioned ice cream parlor on Main Street.
There's also a bingo parlor if you like that sort of thing and plenty of ski ball (Love the ski ball). The highlight is of course the two woodies which both run PTC's with buzz bars.
Let me know and maybe I can meet up with you.
