SoCal in my schedule.
Jeff, remember in another topic we were wondering when we would visit California again? You said you had a business trip. I just found out I am invited to my cousins wedding in Ontario, California. Since it is near LosAngeles, SFMM is a close drive away. I am heading out there on May 11 and now I am going to visit SFMM for the first time. To anyone that has been there and especially to anyone that has ridden Goliath, let me know how the whole experience was. To the people that are ripping on Premier for claiming the Goliath as the tallest and fastest., I visited the SFMM site and they are already just claiming it as one of the fastest and tallest which means they already know that MF is in the picture. You have to give them respect for doing that. Give me feedback on this park since I will visit within a month. (13 coasters is still impressive folks!!!!!!!) Wow, with this visit and the visit to CP this summer I can increase my coaster tally by 27 with just 2 parks. Life is good!!!!!

I can give you everything you want to know about SFMM, I am almost as addicted to that place as I am to Cedar Point. I can even give you directions from Ontario if you want. For starters It is alot longer drive than you think it is by just looking at a map. It is surprising as to how hilly it is, when they say Magic mountain it really is on a mountain. Two coasters you definately should check out is of course Goliath and Riddlers. But Revolution is a close third it is very well paced, and has terrific build up for the only loop. Viper is a pain, there are trim breaks all over that thing, you actually get lurched forward into your seat on the curve right before the ending corckscrews. You go thourgh those corckscrews so slow you feel the train leave the track and hit the underside wheels. it is worth going on for hte first drop only. If you want to know anything else let me know.

Only advice I can give you is if your taking the 60, 10, or 210 into LA (which you have to) from Ontario on ANY weekday morning is give yourself plenty of time to get there. If you leave at say 8AM to get there, it will probably be closer to 10 or 10:30AM by the time you arrive. Even though it's only about 35-45 miles from Ontario, the traffic will snarl you!!!

Trust me Mango, I have heard about L.A. traffic. It makes Chicago traffic look like a breeze (And it isnt, there is constant roadrage on Chicagos highways. I find myself putting the window down and flipping people off and yelling. So what is the most efficient way to get there from Ontario? It doesnt necessarily have to be the shortest route as far as distance. I would rather take an out of the way route where I am not going to get irrate with others on the road. Any feedback is appreciated. P.S. The tollway system out here sucks!!!!

My mother-in-law lives just south of the 60 over by the airport. I only mean that to head west into LA you have to take one of the three afformentioned expressways. To get to the 210, I drive the 60 for about ten minutes to either 71 North to 210 West or follow 60 West to 57/210 North which transistions into 210 West. I wouldn't take the 60 to SFMM.

In the interest of not confusing you (and depending where you are in Ontario), take one of the side streets (Central, Mountain, etc.) to the 10 West. Take 10 West about 10 miles - you'll have options at this point for the 10 West, 57 South or 210 North (I think it's North but it may be labeled west). Whatever it is - get on the 210 North. (Side note: if you take 57 South for about 25 miles you'll end up in Anaheim and start seeing signs for Disneyland). You'll actually head north for about 4 miles before you actually start going West. Take the 210 West - you'll pass Glendora, Durate, Monrovia, Pasadena...keep going till you hit I-5 (you can't miss it - 210 dead ends into the 5). Take 5 North and exit on Magic Mountain Ave or Pkwy (whatever it is). Make a left at the bottom and follow the signs. Your drive distance will be a bit longer but it's really the best way.
For grins (if you're so inclined)you CAN take the 10 to 5 North - but you'll hit more traffic and smog. :)
Where in Chicago do you live? My younger brother lives just north of downtown and works in Highland Park (very nice area). My wife and I went to his graduation (from Loyola) and came across the Skyway and went through downtown where it curves (94 North maybe?) on our way to Elgin(?) Anyhow, what a beautiful city - great place to party as well, and the restaurants kick butt as well. Ever eat at Winston's?

Thanks for the advice Mango, funny you should mention Elgin because that is where I live. If you head north on 94 you are actually heading toward Gurnee(SFGAm). I live west. Use to reside in Chicago but moved to the suburbs. Yes, Highland Park is a nice and rich area. Never been to Winstons. Let me know if you are heading to SFMM around May 11-13.
Since you'll be in Ontario anyway, do not, I repeat, DO NOT miss the Scandia Screamer at Scandia Fun Center, located near the Ontario Airport off of the I-10 and I-15 interchange. Scandia Screamer is one of the absolute best airtime steel coasters I've ever been on, 10 times more airtime and rib crakin' laterals than any ride at SFMM, including Goliath.
