Error trapper, corrupted files?

I got the error trapper, went to clean config on TGR and that didnt work, i downloaded the new patches from rct.com and when it finished downloading it said wrong language, edition, or corrupted game files. WHAT CAN I DO!

The official patch must be installed before teh drexler patch. If you need to re-install the official patch, you must uninstall the game and then install the patch.

Can someone even explain what the crap the error trapper is/does? It's really fascinated me, as it has caused so much grief for everyone.
