The PKI Racer is a whole new ride

Ok, ok...with all of the TR:TR:TR's I think that something has been lost in the mix, here. Tomb Raider is simply amazing. That's all I can say about it. What I could say about the ride has already been better said by other people here, and I'll tell you this: its all pretty futile trying to describe what the ride is actually like. I had been invisioning something for nearly a whole year, and what I experinced was honestly completely different. So, any attempts to explain what happens in that building just aren't going to do any good. Go ride it for yourself.

If you ask me, though, there is news that is almost just as big across the park. In the past, the Racers, no matter how they were running always delivered at least one really good shot or air on the bunny hop just before the turnarounds. That has all changed. I rode backwards first, and as I looked up the first drop, my first thought was "Wow, look at all of that new wood." But the new wood didn't stop coming. The first bunny hop has usually provided some air, and it did, but moreso then usual. The train flew over the second bunny hop and provided another good shot. Sitting near the front of the train, going up into the camel back, we got a HUGE float up out of our seats. It was incredible, and I've felt nothing like it in my 14 years of riding Racer. The bunny hop provided once again big air as usual, and then here's the thing, more huge, floating air going up into the turnaround. I was so astonished, I got in 3 more rides that day.

I suppose it should be attributed to all of the new wood. The whole thing, seriously, is like a brand new ride. I've never had a problem with roughness on the Racer, but in past years the ride has had a bad problem bottoming out really harshly at the bottom of the larger drops and really slamming riders down into their seats. That is no more, and the airtime on this ride is back in abundance. I was really, really amazed, and I like to think the ride now kinda harkens back to when the park first opened. Go ride Racer, people.

Go ride.

Wow, does it go faster through the turnaround now?

You can hear the laughter, you can hear the mighty roar. From the brickyard down in Indy to the white Chicago shore. It's a rollin', twistin', turnin' and might we both suggest. You get you fanny ridin' on the Cornball Express!

Um, well, I suppose it does since the whole thing felt like it was running faster, but on the turnaround its not really noticable. I doubt you're really going to find a John Allen out n back anywhere with a really remarkable turnaround.

The racer backwards was simply marvelous yesterday. It was soooooo smooth and such massive air. Forward I got nothing, negligible air if any and rougher then rough.

Man, I am really looking forward to my trip up there in May! Beast brakeless, lapbarred FOF, repainted Vortex, and now the Racer. I never noticed much air on either side, hopefully that'll change this year.

I love how this park takes care of their rides. Even King Cobra had a fresh coat of paint. Now, if they would only put in another Huss Skylab instead of that stupid climbing wall...

All the world is born right-handed. Only the greatest can overcome it.

They didn't happen to remove the trim brake on the turnarounds, did they?
When I first rode Racer back in 1990, it was packed full of air time. My repeat visits since have not been as exciting as far as the Racer is concerned. The same goes for the Beast. I hope I can get out there this summer and experience the revival in PKI's woodies.
So how is Sonny these days? I haven't ridden him since the ACE event there a couple of years ago. Ohh yeah, does TR shorten the lines for Sonny and Dad? I hope so.

Sonny is running better then ever this year. I rode 11 times yesterday and I really have to wonder why he gets such a bad rep. High speed, intense massive lateral and positive g's and the sweetest loop on any coaster ever, even got a little air on the ending bunny hills yesterday. Rode in the second seat as it provides the best ride on the train.

I agree MagnumForce, SOB is running great and for all of you who have riden the past years and disliked it you need to come back and take another spin on it.
SOB is running really, really well. Beast was awful in the morning, but it was running pretty well that afternoon. Sounds like it was great by nightfall.

Its hard to say if TR:TR is going to shorten the lines for SoB or The Beast. The reason I say this is as of Saturday, The Beast was only running two trains, not three, which resulted in about a 50 minute wait. That wait will change when they have all the trains on The Beast. Also, the park was rather crowded around 5 o`clock on Saturday.

I`ve ridden Son of Beast 67 times!

coastersrz, I asked one of the workers when they were going to get the 3rd train on and he said hopefully by june. I was thinkin in my head what did they do over the winter to not have all trains ready or remotly ready. June is a month and a week away that we have to wait in extra slow lines

The park was pretty empty actually. Longest I waited was 20 mins for FOF. When did you wait 50 for Papa? The only time I saw the line that long and then I dont even think it was that long was right after it opened up after being down for a couple hours.

BTW I was the first car in the parking lot. Rode Sonny 11 times, Papa 4, FOF 2, Reptar 1, Beastie 1, Racer 2, AE 1, Faceoff 1, Eagles 2 (The second time Kneemeister thought sure I was gonna flip over I was snapping the cable so well)Rode the flume, The Train, Went to the top oF the Tower, had the ACE walkback to TR:TR and all kinds of other good stuff, and the longest wait for any of it was 20 minutes on FOF.

The park was practically empty. When I was there the line for Fof started just inside the spaceship, Beast in the morning was a walk on, and then about a 3 train wait in the afternoon, SOB's wasn't too long at all, and just about everything else I rode was a walk on except for TR, of course. Lines there were probably about 30 mins tops both times I rode.

Just a tip for people going, the guy at the front gate of TR claimed the wait was about an hour. The line was backed up online through the first row of the silver rails and couldn't have been 30 minutes at the most. The line moves nice and fast, too, which is nice. I really loved everything about the ride, but like previously said, they just need to turn down the effects, and give us about 15 seconds of just good old fashioned flipping at the end. Other than that, the ride really is a 100% classic. I loved everything else about it.

MagnumForce, I'll have to disagree with you 100% about the Forwards Racer. I thought it gave some of the best rides I've ever had and more floater air than any wooden coaster I can think of right now. I was about the rename it "The Flying Coaster" we had so much air. I hope you weren't stapled? Where did you ride? I didn't know if they left one side of the train rough and boring or not. If they did, I'll tell them to fix it right away. ;)

When I rode forwards i tell you it was flat out dead with air none, nada, zip, zero, zilch. This was in the backseat and man was it rough. Backwards on the other hand was awesome, smooth as glass and massive air. At least they were trying to race when possible too. But I did notice that backwards beat forward everytime so it is very possible it is running faster.

Whoa, I hope it didn't change already since opening weekend. That would be horrible since I loved it so much. I did only have the lap bar down two clicks and expected it to be only decent beforehand, so maybe I just got lucky.
I didn't ride it opening weekend either but I was expecting a lot more yesterday after being so good backwards, but I got nothing.

You need to ride the racer in the front for the airtime.

But the back gave the airtime on the backwards ride.

Yeah, I noticed that this past summer when I rode it although I didn't notice it the summer before. I'll have to ride it again and see how it is now with the new wood.
