Forces , transitions and B&M

for a very long while i was positive that B&M was the best coaster manufacturer, hands down. I still think B:TR is darn near perfect for its height and compact design. But lately, i think they have mellowed their coasters a tad. The transitions in and out of the elements seem now to be smooth to the point of barely being felt. I mean, when you ride a schwartzkopf, you don't good through a loop for aesthetic value, you do it for 5 G's!!! when you go over the sfdl/sfa SROS noninverting corkscrew camelback, you get ejector air. I havent rode AC or RB, but does B&M have the guts to put some pop into nitro? i certainly hope so, SFGadv is my home park

Don't blame B&M, blame the parks. B&M only design what the parks ask for. How many intense B&Ms are now braked to death because the parks decided that they were too intense? I don't blame them for taking the forces out of their coasters.

AC definately has pop! Even the brakes you hit are awesome, best brakes I've ever hit because they are fun, unlike others. Those actually added something to the ride for me.

For some reason both times I rode B:TR I didn't get much fealing or G's. Maybe if I ride it a few more times it will feel more intense.

coastergenius, which B:TR did you ride? The original at SFGAm is extremely intense even though it is short.

Trim breaks are not only added because the park wants to tame rides down, but because they help prevent stress fractures and damage to the ride.

Missy, you would have needed to have ridden Montu, Alpie and Mantis before trims were added to know what I mean. These rides were intentionally added to make the coasters less intense. Now parks just simply ask for tamer versions of B&M rides. They are not the same...

Well, they must have reinforced B:TR at SFGAm because this coaster has been around 8 years and there isnt a trim brake in sight.

I rode Montu 2months ago, I didnt have a problem with it. I thought it was just intense as ever. That brake is just a mental thing, IMO.

I rode Montu in March for the first time, and DAMN that brake!

I have noticed this too. The older B&M'S (Batman: The Ride's, Kumba, Raptor, Mantis no trim, Montu no trim) give a much more intense ride than the newer B&M'S (Montu trim, Batman Knight Flight, Mantis trim, Great Bear)

It's not to say that the new ones aren't as good, it just means that they are less intense.

Also; Mantis and Montu were both probably from the last year of B&M intesity, and both had brakes put on. Mantis' aren't nearly as bad as Montu's.

B&M saw the brakes, and heard the parks complaints, and built them less intense.

Believe me, they could build some wicked stuff if a park would let them. I guarantee.

I have ridden Mantis before and after. Yes, it was much more intense, but you need to figure in the fact that the park does this for numerous reasons. It has been clearly stated before that one reason is due to the amount of pressure caused be the weight of the trains as they make the manuvuers. You also have to realize that we are enthusiast, and a very small percentage when you look at the attendance charts. Not everyone wants to be plastered to their seats. Amusement parks are a business, therefore they do things to please a majority of the population. If that wasn't the case, they would have created things like, Boobs: The Ride.

So why do they cut down the intensity if that's what everybody wants? Oh yeah I forgot, stupid panzies.

Not quite, you want intensity. The general public wants a fun ride, not something that scares them. There is a small market for rides which throw the body in numerous directions and seem completely disorienting. Not everyone shares the same passion as us, that is why there are less than 2000 people on this board. Think about this subject from the eyes of the park/company, and maybe then you will see.

Well there are many people that enjoy intenstity. Not just people who love coasters. Feeling is universal.

Hop on over to europe, italy in that case. They have KATUN, a B&M Inverter tzhat opened this year. Layout similar to Raptor, no brakes yet, incredible forces (to the point of hurting in the flat spins).

The GP also likes any kind of fad that they can get their hands on.

Coastergenius, the second you use logical reasoning, and common sense, this will all become clear.

They have to build rides for EVERYBODY, not just enthusiasts.

If you are an enthusiest than you enjoy G-forces.

This is not a biconditional. You can like G-forces and not be an enthusiests.

Also, generally people who ride roller coasters and like intense rides are willing to pay more money to themeparks and they are attend more frequently then people who like family rides. When was the last time you saw somebody fly 3,00 miles to ride a Carosel.
