Creative/uncreative coaster names.

I think a major thing that really can make you look into a coaster is the name. I believe that there are a few names that do not meet these standards though (i.e. Great American Scream Machine, Judge Roy Scream and the common Rollercoaster/Corkscrew) However, some of the coasters that I've looked into on RCDB partly due to their names are Outlaw, Titan, Vertical Velocity, Air (simple yet descriptive), and Expedition Geforce. Can anybody think of any names they truly wonder where the heck they came from or others that really stand out?

I never really did get why Indian Beach named it Cornball Express, besides the fact that it was thought up when they were trying to find a name for Hoosier Hurricane.

I think Nemesis is pretty creative, as is Oblivion. Uncreative, the award goes to............(drums)......Flying coaster at Elitch Gardens

Cornball Express, forgot that one. Gotta agree with you on Nemesis and Oblivion Antuan. Elitch Gardens is really naming their Volare that?!!!

The best name ive heard is probably, Alpengeist. (maybe, i dont know, i really cant think of them all right now)

I would say that *almost* all the Busch coasters have stand out names; BBW, LNM, Aplengiest, AC, Montu, Gwazi, Kumba.

Names I've wondered about? Cornball Express. What the heck is that?

Most of the names from the both bush garden parks.

I dont think that the Busch names are *really* all that great, they're just foreign. I mean while Kumba sounds cool, remember it's just Kiswahili for "roar". Montu is simply an Egyptian God. And Alpengeist is just French for "Abominable Snowman" ...well maybe that is *cool* (pun intended:))

I kinda like Gwazi though.

Anyway the best name I've heard recently has to be Boulder Dash. You have to respect the play-on-words there (balderdash...) 'cause I *sure* wouldnt have believed that you could build a coaster like that on the side of a mountain!

The reason Busch names are so cool is that it's obvious some thought was put into them, rather than slapping on the name of the latest movie or superhero.

Gwazi - a two-headed beast (one lion, one tiger) that fights with itself - perfect for dueling coaster.

Kumba - means 'roar' - perfect for one of the first B&M rides.

Alpengeist - all at once, it makes you think of mountains, snow, skiing.... and monsters. Perfect.

That said, the best name (and best play on words) is Kennywood's Pitt Fall.

In my humble opinion, Paramount is the most creative in terms of naming their rides. You can tell that someone actually sits down and decides on the most fitting name, often with a touch of humor added. Good job!

....wondering why SFEG didn't take the name from the manufacturer (Zamperla) and just call it Volare?

I also really like GASM....though it WAS creative, the FIRST time! I will post more to this topic later, gotta work now after my TR-like post on MSAP....

Marriot's was one of the more creative namer's IMHO...

Tidal Wave, Demon, Turn of the Century, Williards Whizzer

And they even had some really great flat ride names like...

Industrial Revolution, Hay Bailer, Yukon Yahoo, Delta Flyer, Rue Le Dodge, Fiddler's Fling, Triple Play, Hometown Fun Machine, Columbia Carousel, Cajun Cliffhanger

Would you believe some weirdo on another coaster msg board I frequent actually said that he hated the names of BG's coasters because he thought they should have "more American-sounding" names. Brilliant, eh? :)

Personally, I have to say Yankee Cannonball at Canobie Lake Park was pretty creative. I also like the Screaming Eagle at SFMA.

My favorite coaster name is Serial Thriller. I think it's very creative. I also like The Beast and Son of Beast is pretty dang creative also. Raptor and Mantis are pretty good. I think the flying coaster at SFEG is lame. MF also sounds pretty dull to me.

LTL-Who's surpised SF hasn't been bashed yet.

What about Magnum XL-200. I thought that name was cool. Makes since too, first coaster to break 200 so its XL-200. You all probally knew that though

It's amazing how many people say Magnum XL-2000.

Yeah, paramount and busch are both probably the best two companies naming wise, and sometimes ride wise. Vortex is a really cool name for a looping steel coaster. I think that Wildfire is a cool name as well.

Best name? The one and only true Superman. S:UF AT LEAST IT DOES WHAT IT SAYS!!!!! Meanwhile the Supermans at MM and WOA ae still trying to escape.

Gemeni is a great name for a racing coaster.

Yeah, I must say it was only a matter of time before a flyer was named Superman something. Its a no-brainer, but its still a great name.
