Getting Rid of A Knotts Wacky Soap Box

Remember Knott's Wacky Soap Box Racers? My roommate and i worked at Knotts when they decided to sell off the ride vehicles to employees. We have one original wacky box and we are sick of stubbing our toes on it in the living room. We're planning to auction it off on ebay soon and i was hoping to get the word out to as many interested parties as possible. If anyone can direct me to some other sites I might want to visit, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jen
Try Westcoaster.net, we love the Soap Box quite a lot. How much do you plan on selling it for because I am very interested. Also some pictures would be nice to see some proof.
thanks a bunch spongebob. i'll see if i can't get some pictures up by tomorrow evening. it has all its show wheels, seat cushions, and bumpers. its huge and super heavy so buyer would most likely need to pick it up or pay shipping costs so i would assume youd want to be in the southern california area. thanks again. j
One of the downfalls of living in Ohio! Darn! Funny how I'd rather have one of these than actual furniture. :)

we actually used it as sort of an entertainment center for a long time w/the TV and stereo on top of a piece of plywood that was sitting over the top of the wacky box. if done right, it would actually work out quite well in such a capacity. -Jen

You've got quite a hot item on your hands. Be certain to tell us when you get pictures up and post the auction!

That was my favorite ride as a little kid, I would love to have one of those. Too bad I don't have nearly the amount of money that you will get for it. That would be a pretty cool thing to have though. Somebody will have an awesome souvenir.....

Pictures are up of the Wacky Box. Have a look. I'll let you know when it goes up for auction and stuff.

The fact that such an amusing coaster was replaced by Windjammer kills me. Makes you think Togo hired a hooker to seduce the park manager into buying their product.

But the WSBR was rotting away and maintenance for the ride was incredibly laboring. THey decided to scrap the ride altogether and saw an opportunity to bring in a fresh new novelty ride (but Windjammer was the wrong choice for a ride).

heres a link to the auction.

good luck! jen

I know it needed to be replaced, but why go to Togo and why buy Windjammer? They should have done something like one of Togo's hypers like Bandit, twisted loopers like Venus, heartline coaster like Ultra Twister, stand up, anything would have been better than Windjammer. Why do parks insist on buying prototypes frm Togo and Venkoma if they cause trouble before the first dispatch?
Just put in the first bid....

Ha! I like how you said that Vertigo, Togo must have hired the same hooker for the executives at NY:NY!

Realistically though, Togo must have had some really great sales guys. The novelty of Windjammer for Knott's was the world's first and only looping racing coaster, which Knott's did promote it as. But KBF(prior to CF)wasn't too smart when it came to decisions about new coasters anyway. I think it was also a travesty that an industry icon like the Roaring 20's Corkscrew(the world's first successful looping roller coaster) was removed for a Boomerang, which can be found at what, 40 other parks!

It's interesting Draco, when Knott's debuted Boomerang years ago, I though it was a very cool ride. At one point it was even in my top 5! Boy how time changes things. ;)

-----------------
Have you ever considered that maybe it's not the park that's the problem, but YOU?

Well, Knotts didn't know how Windjammer was going to run when they bought it.

They didn't know that it would be so rough or that the thing was nearly tearing itself apart.

What they saw was a coaster that was visually really cool, and had great capacity and would be a nice centerpiece to their new Boardwalk area.

How wrong they were! But the point is they never could have guessed the end result.
