check out that story @ http://www.beakerzcoasterz.com/article.php?sid=24
How come a ride open since 1998 , never had problems like this at all would valley?!??!
Mantis only has valleyed once, April 21st, 2001 BEFORE the operatin season started. 60mph winds and a greased track were said to be the contributors. http://www.guidetothepoint.com/thepoint/cpplace/thread.asp?ForumID=1&TopicID=4371
Never has Mantis valleyed during the operating season with people on it.

Well, the report is wrong is it says it had guests on it. The ride vallied in the morning during testing.

I really trust that Cedar Point management is not stupid enough to test a ride off-season in 60 mph winds. Say it to yourself. 60 mph winds. Winds like that alone could have chopped off ALL THREE of their VertiGo tower legs in one blast.
Ok, 60mph occasional gusts, of course I didn't mean sustained winds, that'd be silly. I wonder if the first drop trim was on...
According to S&S, the Vertigo towers were designed with a 90mph wind load, which is standard wind load for Northern Ohio, so a 60 mph wind shouldn't affect things, but obviously it did.

That's odd. Nothing this major has happened to this ride from the day it opened on April 4, 1998. Must be wind or something was wrong with the wheel assembly? If I remember correctly, the train stalled in between the two over-the-top diving loops?
Since when was a rollback with no one riding on it major? :)
