What's that Intamin Woodie?

At the Intamin website, they've got a picture of one of their wooden coasters (did you know they made wood? I didn't). The coaster looks awesome. What and where is it, and has anyone here ridden it?

That wooden coaster is at the same park as the Steel Dragon, if I am correct. Its in Japan.

Why yes, it is...thanks. I checked the site and was able to see another picture of it. Man, that looks like an absolutely incredible ride. One more reason to go to Nagashima SpaLand. (Like I'll ever get out there). If I'm ever in Japan though...that's a #1 priority.

You dont have to go to Japan to find an Intamin woodie. American Eagle at SFGAm is an Intamin product.

Intamin must have gotten a really bad batch of chain this year. This is the third time one has broken this year. I certinly hope that they get better metal next year.

That coaster is called the White Cyclone, and yes, it is at Nagashima Spaland.

I also have a Intaimin website question. What is the red coaster (the one you see when you click on mega/giga link the link below the wooden coaster on)?

This coaster received some of the best reviews ever for a wooden coaster, which throws the large=equals bad theory right out the window.

I don't think that is the one. When I was at DL this year I don't remember those two other big hills to the left of the drop in that picture. And I don't remember the road and cars to the left either. See the farthest hill to the left. (the second tallest one) if you follow that track to the right side of the picture you see ir start to turn left. superman at SFDL does not turn left there. I don't know which one it is but it is not sfdl's

They also built the 'Pegusas' in Holland.

Trust me Hooper, that's the SFDL Superman. It drops, turns left, goes up the hill, down, straightaway, turns left into the helix, comes out of the helix, up over the other hill, another helix, hops back to the station. I was just there a little bit ago and have a very similar picture. You can also see Predator in the background, right where it's supposed to be.

Let's not throw anything out the window just yet, Simcoaster! Where did you see the stats of the White Cyclone? I cannot find the height / drop of this anywhere. Besides, one well recieved coaster does not set the new standard, more like a fluke.

(Sim, I know that we have had this conversation before, but I am ready for another round!)

I could be wrong, but I believe the first drop is 159ft. And yes it could be a fluke, but it absolutely *can* be done by the right company, and an exciting layout. Why isn't it done more? Most parks simply cannot afford it, and they are very high maintenance, who wants the trouble of all that wood? So no, there is no *standard*, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. If you refer to coasters like Hercules or Mean Streak, well think about it, when is the last time RCCA or Premier opened a smooth coaster wood or steel?

Speed:TR is a very smooth LIM coaster from Premier, I did not experience any headbanging at all.. Maybe because there is no "spaghetti bowl" like on OL:FOF?

You are right, Big Wood can be done well, but the amount of maintainance (to keep it running well) would make me think twice (if I were the one to make the decision ;)) about the size of it. If I had 20 Million (arbitrary large sum of money) to spend on one wooden coaster, I would spend 6 mil on a CCI, about 125', and use the other 14 mil to improve other aspects of my park. Or I would get a three way racing / dueling, each about 100'
