Besides MA where else in Mi does CF own land?

In the 70's Cedar Point was going to build another park in Michigan. CP went as far to buy land somewhere in Michigan. Does CP still own the land. If so, where is it and why haven't they pursued it?

Yes, Cedar Fair still owns land imbetween Battle Creek and kalamazoo.  From what I understand, they proposed a deal with the township to build and expand the roads around the area, for a certian tax-break, but the township turned them down and the property has been sitting there ever since.  I forget exactly the size, but its size is somewhere around 650 acres, if my memory serves me correctly.

It was about '73 or 74 as I recall. The land is in the "Irish Hills" area. For those of you not familiar with the area, it is a fairly popular summer resort area. They were going to build another CP style resort there, fearing that the oil crisis that we had just gone through would be repeated.The thought was to keep people within a couple hours drive of any of their properties. However things settled down,and with passing of Emil LeGross during the winter of 74-75 there was the start of a massive mangement change at the Point, and they went in a different direction.

According to the "Queen of American Watering Places" book, the proposed park would be located near Onsted, which is in the Irish Hills area, and is also near Mich. International Speedway.  Legend has it that Gemini was slated to be the flagship ride at this new park.  However, as Dutchman has noted, plans were changed and CP purchased Valleyfair!.

I'm curious if any of you guys have any more info on this. I remmember it - vaguely - being between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo. But the Mi. Int. Speedway and Irish Hills are south of Jackson.

I'd just like to find out for the sake of the argument.

It was defintiely the Irish Hills area. I recall there was some prelimenary advertising done in mid to late 74 about the new park. I also recall that all the  employees at the Point were briefed about the proposed park at least once during the season.
