Same Name, Different Coaster

I have a quetion for you all. If a park had a poorly made coaster and they tore it down, then built a totally different type of coaster other than what they had before. And they kept the same name. Would people ride the coaster because it is different than the original, or would they not ride it because of the name. For example, most of us remember the Bat at PKI, right? They tore it down because of some problems. Let's say they decided to build for instance a B&M inverted coaster(painted like the old Bat), and they gave it the name the Bat. Would you ride it?

Of course I would. Just because of the name??? Why not? I like coasters by how good they are. G's, etc. Thmeming and the name only adds to my liking it doesn't stop my liking.

Would a bad paint job and recycled name keep you off MF, SOB, and BKF?

Some People I talk to said if PKI did "bring back the Bat" it would be a bad reputation for them. They also said the name "The Bat" is a coaster that failed. To me it looks like those people just go for the look and not the ride itself. Like you guys said you would ride not because of the name, but because of the ride itself. A "recycled" name doesn't make the coaster terrible ride.

Whose Line is it Anyway?

I kinda thought the logo for the Bat was cool.I would love for them to bring it(logo)back.

If PKI installed a B&M (by the way, they are booked for 3 years), and called it the "Bat", more power to them. All the Six Flags parks are so original with there names, the "Bat" would be a welcome addition to the land of 'Mind Eraser', 'Batman', 'Medusa', etc. PKI would just be showing their public that they have redone a concept of a ride, and it is now better. Second, as upper management member of this fearless industry, I am saying here and now that 'SOB' will need major work about 6 weeks into operation, and I bet that loop comes out before 'SOB' is allowed to operate in the 2001 season. 'SOB' was built with other world records, the loop is just the gimmick to counter-market Cedar Point and SF Ohio.

Am I reading this right? SOB will need major work within 2 months of operation? Are we trying to get attention here? This makes no sense. And as far as the loop, would this be considered marketing genius? Hey hammer, if you are a part of this so called genius type strategy than you need to find another line of work. This whole thing would spell disaster for PKI if it was true!!!!!!

First, all woodies require almost daily maintenance. The folks at PKI aren't stupid, and the loop isn't going anywhere. I agree it's a gimmick, but removing it would change the dynamics of the entire ride.

Second, B&M is not "booked" for three years. They can build as much as they can staff and farm out to their fabricators.

I agree with Jeff. PKI wouldn't add a loop to SOB if they didn't want it. To me I don't care either way I'm still going to ride it. It's just awsome to see PKI get another tall coaster (the other being Vortex) over 140 ft. The ones you can see loomig over the park when you drive to it.

To get back on topic. . .

I wouldn't care if a new coaster had the same name as a previous coaster, what I can do without is Six Flags using the same name for different coasters at the same time at different parks. Ok, Batman is pretty consistent But at SFGA There is the "Viper" (uncomfortable heartline coaster) and st SFMM is "Viper", Arrow Looper which is very similar to SFGA's looper called "The Great American Scream Machine" and on and on. It really annoys me. Especially when people refer to the Six Flags whatver but don't specify the park. Is there really a lack of good coaster names out there that Six Flags feels such a need to conserve them and apply the same name to drastically different coasters?

To the above beastMASTER, please know your facts. B&M does not technically even manufacture, they design, source out, and assemble. Here is a great fact for you, Intamin only buys exisiting components, and assembles on site. They distribute and sell other company products. Arrow and Vekoma, for example, build, test, and install. But yes, names are for tombstones, all coasters are good. Period. The PKI SOB will still be a good ride, but only because Werner Stengal designed it. He was the lead designer for Anton Schwarzkof. But like all other record breakers, it will have problems, especially if the wood got wet that is used for the track, it will pop the track spikes out. Fact. And to chitown, relax, this is all about fun. I will be speaking at IAAPA in Atlanta this fall, you may be employee of the month at Burger Chef.

Intamin manufactures their track and trains themselves in Europe. The support structure is fabricated in the states, in the case of their US installations. Intamin has engineers on-site to supervise testing from pull-through to lift testing. Erection of the ride is performed by local steel erectors under the supervision of park management or a project management firm.

Until you can tell us who you are, you lack credibility, so excuse the skeptics and keep the mean spirited nonsense to yourself.

B&M's case is similar to Intamin, only track is manufactured here as well, in southern Ohio, actually. The trains are still built in Europe.

What about my credibility? I'm a journalist (among other things) with the right contacts. Heck, I could tell you the exact travel path of Millennium Force parts and the name of the ocean carrier and rail carrier if you were really curious!

All of you loosers have no lives. If you all spend this much time worrying about roller coasters, I would hate to see what your boyfriends and girlfriends look like. How many of you are actually amusement park operators and actually know what you are talking about????? SILENCE, thats what I thought.

And to the so called "journalist", when was the last time you actually financed and built a roller coaster in your park (oh, I forgot, you are a wannabe)..........JACK!!!!!!!!!
