SLC Question
OK, this has been bugging me for a while and I "30 Coasters in 24 Hours?" got me to post a thread on it. Do SLC's have anti-rollbacks. When you hear it on the lift it is silent except for the motor. And, if you look straight ahead there are no anti-rollbacks. So if the chain snaps is the train going to fly backwards into the station?

I'm quite sure that SLC's have anti rollback devices installed on the lift.If you've ever been to SFA and have ever ridden Batwing you wouldn't really hear the sound of the anti rollbacks but it has them because it has been stuck on the lift before.I've never seen an SLC get stuck yet but trust me the anti rollbacks are there.
Yes, the SLCs have anti-rollbacks, and they have almost nothing in common with the ones on Millennium Force. I'm not sure how they compare to the ones on X-Flight/Batwing/Stealth.
Next time you ride an SLC, look closely at two things. First of all, notice that on the lift hill there is a vertical steel fin, I believe it is mounted to the left of the chain guide. On the train, mounted on the tops of the axles if I remember correctly, are small spring-loaded fingers that grip the two sides of the aforementioned fin. These fingers get pushed open by the backward motion of the steel fin (i.e. the forward motion of the train), but forward motion of the fin relative to the train (caused by backward motion of the train) will cause the teeth on these fingers to drag against the fin, and the weight of the train will actually cause those teeth to dig into the fin, locking the train in place.

Umm... No you can't. *maybe* there are a few 1 train kiddy coasters, I am unsure *maybe*
On Shwarzkopfs (sp?) with tire lifts , the wheels can only rotate forward. Those are the only ones without an obvious anti rollback that i can think of other than SLCs and MF.

And BBSpeed26...we just established that there is an anti-rollback system on the SLC. :)
Actually, I don't think I've seen a kiddie coaster without an anti-rollback except possibly a Dragon Wagon, but I'm not sure that even qualifies as a coaster...!

Oh, Thanks RideMan, I was wondering why that steel panel went up next to the chain. It made no sense to me why it was there until you explained it. But, I do have another question. Why didn't Vekoma just go with a simple one that is on Intamin coasters. I forget what they are called. It's makes no sense why they used something that probably costs more money vs. something very simple.
