Wind factor on lake Erie?

Do you think the wind will make difference on the performance of Wicked Twister?If you have ever watched S:UE run you noticed the shaking at the top of the spiral spike.Maybe the wind will make it shake too much.

We had this exact topic not that long ago im sure if you will search for it you will find it, but I think most people thought that the wind wouldn't make a difference.

Whoopity do, it sways, the Sears Tower sways about 10 feet at the top and its 1,200 feet tall.  I would be more worried if WT didn't sway.

well we know it effects magnum.

The shaking is probably due to the weight of the train, not the wind.  As the track is fairly open (opposed to a wind-resistant box-beam structure like that on B&Ms), wind will probably pass through it.

It's not like it will roll back anyway

Wicked Twister is being built slightly different than Superman to accommodate the extra "twist". Remember if it doesn't shake it will break! Badnitrus, has modeled Wicked Twister right on. As you can see Wicked Twister first twist will be attached right to the supports themselves. You can see the wonderful model here:

A structure like the Intamin frames has more pieces to stir up turbulence and probably has no less resistance to wind than a B&M box beam.   Still, I don't expect that there will be much effect from the winds off Lake Erie other than a nice breeze when you pause at the top.

Again, this falls into the category of "don't you think that the planners, designers, and engineers already thought of that because they are not idiots?"

Amen bigboy, this is not RCT here where you place any type of coaster anywhere you want.  For a investment such as this, they do more than just pick a site and say put it there.  They calculate the weight of the train, they check the ground to make sure it will hold such a structure, and they do so much more. 

Right on, bigboy.  Just about everything, not just coasters, is engineered with at least a 2x safety factor, that is the engineer looks at stresses a structure will undergo, and compensate double for it.  The factor can be even more, the boilers for the steam engines on the SFOG railroad have a 4x rating.

Hey bigboy....Who was they planner, designer, builder of Vertigo.  They didn't think of something apparently.

The CP Vertigo was a prodotype from S&S. They probably made modifications that weakened the joints (if that's where it broke). Wind did not bring down Vertigo.

Maybe wind didn't bring it down but I guarantee you there was something that got missed.  It didn't fall down for no reason and it stayed up for 5 months before it fell.

Another thing to consider: products, whether it be cars, roller coasters, stereo equipment, etc., are built by human beings who can make mistakes that cause flaws in such equipment.  These mistakes and flaws will happen despite all the planning and calculations.  While wind may have been a contributing factor, I'm sure there was some other underlying structural problem.

We can speculate for days, weeks or even months.Let's leave it up to the structual engineers to determine what actually happen.

Whoa...let's get this back on track.  We were talking about the wind being a factor.  Engineers have gone through the design of WT with a fine tooth comb.  If wind was going to be such a huge factor, do you think they would have put it where they did?  May just be the reason why the support for that puppy goes as high as it does.  Let's get off Vertigo and wait till the engineers for S&S figure it out.  That bad boy won't open till they are sure they have the problem remedied.  I don't think the wind will do anything but move the spikes around a little anywho's.
