SFWOA Attendance from Amusement Business.com

Does anyone know what amusementbusiness.com reported for SFWOA's 2001 attendance?

It was my understanding (according to People Who Know(TM)) that they were actually a little below 1.5 million, which would put it well below the list released by AB.

The actual magazine lists the Top 50 Parks of North America... (this is from a post that somebody made on the SFDLnet forums)...

This is also from Amusement Business.

Or down 8.3% from the combined 3 million of the two parks last year...

Eh, I'm a little confused here... SFLD Dude says the park was listed as 2.75 million and Jeff says it's 1.5 million. Can either of you clarify?

My source may have been wrong, but at the same time we may never know because the park doesn't officially announce the numbers. Both my source and AB conducted market research to arrive at these numbers. I'm guessing it's somewhere in the middle.

The former Sea World side was empty this year, and I don't recall it being crowded any of the days I went on the Geauga Lake side either. 2.75 million might very well be right, but I'd have a hard time believing it. Last year they did 1.7 million on the GL side alone and it was pretty crowded most of the season. That wasn't the case this year.

I guess we can never know for sure.

If I'm not mistaken, CP pulls a little more than 3 million visitors a summer, which makes the SFWoA figure of 2.75 million a little hard to swallow. Maybe I went on the wrong days this summer, but the lines at WoA were never longer than about 20-25 minutes on the big coasters, and this was with EXTREMELY slow unloading times, no matter how many trains were running (not counting X-Flight because of its horrible capacity). Compare this with the fact that CP has more big rides, runs 3 trains on almost everything, and averages about 35-45 minute waits on the big coasters (and just look at the queue sizes of the 2 parks compared). And I'm supposed to believe that SFWoA had only 10% less attendence than CP? That can't be right.

I bet that if they were down they would advertise a little more fiercly this year. So only time will tell.

They need to do MUCH more than advertise to pull up attendence! Negative word of mouth spilling through the GP is hard to combat.

They are selling the Season Passes already. I saw the ad and just laughed. Still, what happens if attendence does keep going down?

I don't get it at all... they raise every price at the park... except for the season pass price, which has been 54.99 (for an idividual) for the last couple years

SFMM raised theirs from 80$ to 90$ I think its cuase of us SCV Teens who go there almost everyday.

MooreOn, Don't forget, a ticket to WoA gets you into the water park and all of the shows on the wildlife side. This takes alot of the traffic away from the rides.

The marketing difference in the Cleveland market was pretty dramatic. Six Flags did the carbon copy ads they're famous for at the beginning of the season, and did a good bit of outdoor advertising as far away as Toledo. CP did TV spots all year, including Elvyra (puke) spots in the fall for Halloweekends.

I don't know... I was genuinely concerned about the crowd sizes at Six Flags the last couple of times I was there. I mean, the wait times are tolerable when there's nobody there, but it can't be good for business.

Thats about the numbers I heard during the summer for attendence. So I believe it. actually its about 250,000 higher then I heard. Good for us!
