A Question About Floorless Coasters

What does it feel like when riding a floorless coaster? Does it look like your feet are going to drag on the track? I'm asking because I'm trying to go to SFO again on September 23rd since I wasn't able to go on September 9th. I just like to know how your body handels this type of coaster so I know when I ride Batman: Knight Flight.

Sitting in the seats feels pretty similar to sitting in an inverted coaster. Similar restraints and your legs are dangling. The floorless effect is kind of neat in the station when the floor panels fold away and when climbing the lift hill but when engulfed in the ride, I don't really notice the floorlessness too much. I've heard that there is more of an effect in the front seat but I've never ridden the front so I can't comment too much on that.

I had ridden rows 2 through 8 numerous times on Medusa at SFGAdv and the feeling was similar to that of an inverted coaster, but the first row is what makes the floorless coaster. Especially as the track bends upward (and into inversions), it seems as if my feet were going to actually hit the track which is a very cool feeling I might add. I recommend riding the front seat on B:KF because the effect should be the same. Enjoy!

Totally agree. My wife and I rode BKF at SFO and found the ride very much like an inverted. We wanted to ride the front but the wait was too long (over 2 hours) and we had to go. It was a very nice smooth ride and we enjoyed it a lot.

At SFO, you have to try both the front and back.

The front will give you the full floorless expirience, while the back gives you airtime.

If you don't sit in the front, stick your legs out as far as you can, and when it turns sharply your foot will touch the car in front of you.

I was at SFMW one day last summer and I got to ride Medusa 12 times from the front. Riding from the front on a floorless is one of the most amazing coaster experiences you can have. It sorta feels like your legs are going to get pulled under the car. In all the other rows it isn't much different than any B&M sitdown. My advice is to sit and wait for the front.

MFCrazyRider, could you mean this summer? The summer that "technically" hasn't past yet? I agree with your statement on Medusa. The front seat is the best on a floorless. My legs always get pushed upwards on the first drop on Medusa. It's a great feeling. You get great airtime on a floorless. At least, that's my opinion. Peace. :D

Medusa at Marine World: the best in the west!

On Medusa West the floorless effect was great. I thought my feet were going to be chopped off especially going through the loops. I found that the front is the best but the middle is still pretty good for the floorless effect.

I couldn't tell a difference of no floor when I was riding Medusa East.

I hardly noticed the floorless effect on BKF until I rode in the front seat. I recommend one ride in the front and one ride in the back also, since even though you get the floorless effect in the front, the ride itself (drops, loops, and airtime) is a lot better in the back.

Batman was kind of a let down for me (and I wonder why people continue to call it "BKF" because most people have no idea what the heck you're talking about). The sensation really is lost outside of the front. It has a strong start in the first drop and an intense ending, but the middle parts are a poorly paced sequence of standard B&M elements. Oddly enough, people who have been on the Medusas say it really could have used the heartline twist, especially since it's the longest floorless to date.

I enjoyed it. Jeff is right that if you are not sitting in the front row, you lose the "floorless concept". I always thought they needed to raise the seats more to create a true floorless feeling..like you were sitting on a barstool.

I personally love floorless coasters (I've ridden 2 -- Medusa East and Batman Knight Flight).

The first row is GREAT for the floorless effect, but sitting anywhere you still have dangling legs, AND regardless of the floorless aspect, these are B&M sitdown machines, and that's not a bad thing :)

The front seat on Medusa West is definitely the best for the visuals, but my personal favorite seat is the very last row, far left seat.
The sustained floater airtime down the entire 15 story straight drop is amazing. And being flug around like a rag doll through the zero g roll is brilliant, best part of the ride IMO. Not to mention the sudden drop off the block brakes, all these elements are greatly enhanced as you're yanked along them in that last row, left hand seat!

They should have the first row of all coasters be floorless!
