B&M Stand-Up coasters - how are they aging?

Is it just me, or does this particular class of B&M coaster not age as well as the others?  In specific, I'm thinking of the Vortex's (Vortices?) and Chang and even Mantis to a lesser degree.  I haven't ridden IW, but the newest ( RR and Ga Scorcher) are still really smooth, but I'm concerned for them in the future if the others are an indication.  Kumba, and even Montu WERE getting a little bumpy before their respective rehabs, so I'm thinking maybe the stand-up B&Ms may just need a dose of maintenance.  (Or am I just getting picky?)

Mantis is still smooth.  The only thing I can say is different about it is that they put a trim break on the first hill years ago.  Other than that, it seems to runs as good as ever.

Just last night I realized IW is my favorite B&M. It's fast and intence like B:TR, and not as smooth as glass like RB. The roughness isn't a bad thing, it adds to the ride, and with the new restraints (like Mantis's,) it rocks.

I always remember IW being a bit rough, so I don't think the age of it added too much, but the new restraints this year made it extremely withstandable.

I, for one, am ALMOST to the point that I don't wanna ride Vortex at PC.  It's getting unbearably rough, and honestly, not worth the wait.

*What that actually means is, I'll only ride it once..  I have this hangup about riding all coasters at least once*

Well B&M's first Stand up and coaster Iron Wolf seems to have aged very well,  it is still a very smooth coaster.  I assume all the other B&M coasters also aged well.

IW smooth? Heck no, i thought my brains were getting bashed in , i love the layout and lanscaping though but it headbangs worse then any coaster i have ever rode.

Other than the turnaround before the corckscrew, Iron Wolf has aged very well.

      The two I have been on, Chang and RR were both great. No signs of aging to me. However almost all standups look old and worn due to how over half of all B&M standups need paintjobs badly. What's with parks and neglecting to paint their standups?

Why wont the park ask for new trains? Get the spring-loaded wheel asembley and IW will be smooth. Not that hard to think of ;)

I don't get it.....
Yesterday I rode Mantis three times. First ride was great,but,later at night I rode it twice.
it seemes as if I was riding an old Arrow Looper it was very rough.

Theres only one rough spot and thats right where ragingbullguy said right before the corkscrew besides that the rides pretty smooth.

I don't find Iron Wolf rough at all. It's not as smooth as a normal B&M, but it's so much faster and so much more intense than about any other B&M. I love it, and I think it is one of the best stand-ups out there. It gives a ride that I prefer most.

No B&M I've ever been on, including Iron Wolf, tracks roughly, which is what the original question was asking. However, the transitions on some of the stand-ups are too quick. If there's a quick change in direction and your head is that far away from the center of the rolling axis, what do you think happens to your head? It gets smashed around.

What I'm getting at is that it isn't a matter of aging, but rather design in the first place.

I guess what I was getting at was I had ridden no "bangy" B&Ms until I rode Chang this Spring.  I vaguely remember feeling that Vortex at PCar (last summer) was not as smooth as most others.  The latest stand-ups, RR (last fall) and Ga Scorcher (this fall) seemed very smooth and not at all bangy.  Realize we're talking subtle changes here, it's not like I mean to bash the rides at all.  A worn hang-and-bang or Arrow megalooper are MUCH worse, not even in the same class.  When checking all the B&M stand-ups, and what I'd read about the two I haven't ridden (yet), I thought maybe the difference was in the age of the rides...could also reflect subtle design or manufacturing process or even installation changes...or I could be mistaken altogether...just though I'd start a ruckus over "rough B&Ms"...j/k!

Maybe it was teh cold when I rode Iron Wolf but I swear I left that ride with my ears embeded in the head rests, I guess I better go back to Gurnee to get them.

Maybe my ears being so cld just made the bashing worse on my ears I don't know but its the roughest ride I have ever had worse then T2 at SFKK even and I thought that was horrible.

I thought T2 was bearable. I'm not too much on Stand ups ( It's a guy thing)

Maybe riding the correct way will keep your guy parts in tact.

I thought Premier built RR(?). Stand-ups are my least favorite kind of ride. Vortex at PCar is my least favorite ride. It has nothing to do with age, that ride was no fun for me when it was new. Same with the Georgia Scorcher, it has this one turn, not much of a turn, but it's a sudden jolt, I guess I'm the right height for it to be uncomfortable.

The effect of gravity is not related to ROUGHNESS. As Jeff said, if you are riding and the train makes an abrupt turn, sending your head into the OTSR, it isnt ROUGHNESS, its gravity force. If the train is riding a relatively FLAT STRAIGHT stretch of track and is bumpy and uncomfortable, THAT IS ROUGHNESS! Stand-ups by design are the most probable coaster to suffer from gravitational pull on peoples heads, because the largest force is toward the top of the train on many elements, sending heads flying. Conversly, on an invert, the majority of gravitational pull is on the buttocks, which are tightly secured in the seats, making for a much smoother ride. Lets not confuse instantaneous headbanging with a truely rough ride.  Headbanging will also greatly depend on the position of the train you are in. Coaster BOB mentioned that he rode Mantis 3 times. First ride good, next two bad. It was probably his position that determined the difference in gravitational pull. General rule of thumb---Front seats have LESS pull, rear seats have MORE pull. On a four across seating arrangements, outer seats pull more & inner seats less. Though the degree is minimal, the feeling can be greatly defferent. If a ride seemed to bang you around a little, try riding closer to the front next time and see if its better.

LOL. RRv a Premier coaster? How did you come up with that? The track is B&M, the train are B&M, and the freaking signature dip and twist drop should give you a clue!, as well as the vertical loop circling the lift...and the dive loops, AND the oblique loop, which are all trademark B&M elements. OHHHH I think you meant THE JOKER'S JINX? But still, how do you make those two names sound alike?
