Hey all..

What ride is Shockwave Modeled After?

A: Demon..

The designers of Shockwave @ SFGAm took the blueprints of Turn of The Century and add a few (3 I believe) loops to the design. The ride seems so much differnet because Shockwave is quite a bit higher than Demon, but indeed the rides are very much similar.

It is nothing alike different drop, another loop huge more turns boomerang I don't think I buy this one.
It's like saying corkscrew is the model for demon, or shockwave is the model for viper just seems pretty weird to me.

The rides are extremely similar.. Those two rides are closer to each other than probably any other two rides in the park in the way of functionality and design.

They are both designed by Arrow. Turn of the Century had a straightaway with it's loops of course, and Shockwave has a turn halfway in.

Nick- Of course they're the most similar...  They're the only 2 Arrow in the park!!!  Of B&M's one is a standup, one is an inverted, one is a hyper.  In fact, they're so similar that they are the only 2 steel coasters in the park not made by B&M.
Oh, wait I think I see what you're saying.  Other than for the extra loops, the curved drop, the turn, the brakes, the half-loop/half-corkscrew combos, the lack of rocks, and the lack of tunnels, they are exact copies.  Yeah, right.  Good one...

Shockwave is completely different than Demon.  They're both designed by Arrow, but Shockwave has seven loops and Demon has four.  Two of those three extra loops are a boomerang (or whatever you want to call it). 

Shockwave: Diving first drop to the left into avertical loop, 90-degree* turn to the left, two more vertical loops, turn to the left, midcourse brakes, two boomerang inversions, 180-degree* turn to the right into two corkscrews and a 180-degree* turn to the left into final brake-run.

Demon: 180-degree turn to the left, straight drop into two vertical loops, 180-degree* turn to the left, two corkscrews and a final helix into the brake run.

They are not at all similar besides the fact that they were built by Arrow Dynamics in the 80's.

I did point out the ovious difference in theming..

It's ovious six flags great america went to Arrow with the intent of creating a ride very similar to Demon..

Shockwave the evil spawn of the Demon??  Eh, I think a lot of the Arrow's of the '70's and '80's seem similar, but you can say that about a lot of coaster companies.  I still think there should be a helix before slamming into the mid course.  Although you do get that ejected into the parking lot feeling... 
Are there any differences between Shockwave and GASM then the 3 foot hight difference?

UUHHHHMMMM I did work there for many years. Sure they are similar, track type, steel, trains, made by Arrow, both use the nasty Arrow loops. Yeah similar at the very, very basic points. Shockwave has those nasty brakes, while Demon is much smoother. Sorry try again. Not meaning to be rude, but this really is nothing that anyone else could not figure out without a 30 second look at them. It was designed on its own to be the tallest, fastest, looping steel coaster with the most inversions. And it was, till GASM and Viper. That is it, nothing more.
