I was wondering if Six Flags Great America has any room to expand beacuase I hear they own land across the highway, but I'm not sure.

The parking lot.. If they are smart they will have the parking lot across the highway and move a lot of the stuff arround..

My dream of that park is to replace shockwave with a dark-coaster similar to "Rocking Roller Coaster"

sure they have room.  if they decide to take out shockwave they will have a ton, and the areas between shockwave and iron wolf around the outside, i think there will be a good lot of room.

yeah I hope they use that land between Shockwave and Iron Wolf, if they own it all.  I saw a small lake over there when on shockwaves lift,  It would be nice if they made a new territory in there.

Lets all hope they do NOT take the Shockwave out:). I'm sure they have plenty of room, if not, they could probably purchase it.

"They" DON'T have to take out Shockwave. There is land in behind Shockwave and Iron Wolf, which the land is the the middle.

This site has aerial pics of SFGAm, and there are photos of the open land.

Here is the link:
http://www.weezil.com/sfgam2.htm

I think the pics of the land are either the 2nd to last of the last page of photos. I'm not sure.

If they would buy out the property across the interstate they would have a lot of room. (huge cornfield). I heard rumors floating around the park that they will eventually take out shockwave in the next few years because of its loss of popularity and jerkiness. I hope this is true!

BTW I was at the park not to long ago and one of the workers was saying that they were building a waterpark in the open area up by the employees parking lot.

Cedar Point. They already own property across the interstate and the plan is for a resort and waterpark to be built on that property. Gurnee supposedly approved the plan but I heard that some stipulations are keeping it from being built any time soon.

As far as expanding over by that pond near the Shockwave. I highly doubt that would happen because of the residential area next to it. The people that own those houses would make a huge arguement if Six Flags considered expanding in that area.

I dont see the need to expand. They have 7 themed areas already. All they have to do is get creative with adding new attractions.

Amen Chitown! I think SF has to take some notes from IB with space issues. :)

I think the only way the park would expand would be into the current parking lot. If they would move teh bus parking to another location that would free up a ton of room. The only problem is that the park will not be expanding, It took them 20 some years to add the Soutwest Territory live with that.

As far as the side of the park by Shockwave, forget about it. Chitown hit it right on the head. The residents in that part of the park would throw a major fit over it. Heck they already do now. Anyone wonder why the park is no longer open past 10:00 PM anymore? It's cause of the neighbors. If the park does expand I look for a new coaster in the area over by Dino Island right in the front. Maybe a junior coaster or Mouse right in the front entrance area. Anything is possible.

The only time the park is open till 11 pm is on Friday nights during Frightfest. Otherwise 10 pm is the latest throughout the season.

They need to move all of those corporate picnic areas somewhere else, and make a new rapids ride (preferably something that goes under the New Orleans area).. That would clear up a good amount of space for a new area.

What type of areas would you like to see? I would love to see something themed like epcot @ SFGAm

They should definetly take out the picnic area and build a new coaster.

They could actually build a coaster over the picnic area. Where would the picnic area go if they moved it out of that area?

How about all that dead parking lot UNDER the Shockwave!!!  (first things first, put lap bars on Shocker)...  A nice little boardwalk or "mini midway" would be nice right under those corkscrews (like CP), and there's plenty of room for a few flat rides (or let's dream a little...  CCI can build a twister that tangles up with Shockwave!)
