coaster designing

i know this topic has been brought up about a gazillion times, but id really like an accurate,informative response from anyone that would know.  im a sophomore in college and would like to pursue a career in coaster design. has anyone emailed corporations like arrow and gci or cci and asked them questions? i basically just wanna know what my major should be. obviously engineering(i think), or is there a specific type of engineering, or is it a totally different major i should be focusing on? some responses would help me a great deal-thanx-dante

eh, i'm sure there's a career service at your school, between that and an advising center, hopefully you can figure it out.

Why not write to various companies yourself, asking for their advice about majors, minors, high school prep courses, electives, and so forth? I'm sure they'd be happy to help, and you can't get much more official than that. I wouldn't use email, however, as it isn't as professional and you want some real information.

Well, I don't know anything about majors, but couldn't you major in structural, civil, or mechanical engineering?  There are many aspects that go into the design of a coaster, including the basic design, mechanics(brakes, chain lift), and architectural drawing.  If you work at a company would you do all of these things, or only one?

thanx for all the help gusy it really is helping me out alot. thanfully, i goto a very god engineering school(Drexel University)and have many programs to choose from. i have narrowed it down to either mechanical, civil, or materials engineering. which one best suits coaster designing?
