Assigned seating on MF

I couldn't find this topic and I was curious as to what people thought:

What do you think of Millenium Force's assigned seating policy? And if you don't like it, what do you suggest?

While waiting for the front, one man started arguing very loudly and with such lovely words, that security took him out.

I didn't think that they still did that. Do they still do that or can you pick your seats? If they do then I do like the efficiency involved with it. There is nothing I hate more than an empty seat that I could be sitting in and they use to not to like to run empty seats on the MF.

The ops let you choose your seat this year. The assigned seating was only for 2000, and is now a thing of the past.

No, they still assign seats.
Luckily for me, on my only ride ever on MF, they assigned me to the back seat.
Hey, its the least I get after a two hour wait. :)

When I went this past week, they assigned every seat BUT the front and back seats. They also made single riders pair up, frantically getting the other people in their group (if there were) to be riding close by. Sometimes, this didn't always work out and they were unhappy, but they did it anyway.

Hey, how'd that happen? I waited 3 separate times at 3 hours a piece and still only got the middle.

When I went this year, and last year, I never had the seats assigned to me. I just went to any open gates, or to wait in the front or back.

I just got back and here's the deal:

They let 32 people on the platform at a time. You are free to choose any one of the open seats, but you can't wait in line for one that someone else has already taken. The exceptions are the front and back cars. They have a bit of a cue (maybe 6 or 8 people) for the back car and a relatively long one for the front.(maybe 30 people). If either line gets too long, they won't let anyone else wait.

OK...on MF this year, you have the option to only wait for the front or back seats. All other seats are assigned to the rider. I like the system, because it keep the line moving. They should implement this on all coasters. As long as you are able to wait for the very front or very back, I will be happy. If you are in the middle of the train, your ride won't be as good.

Hmmm...this is the closest expalnation to how it worked when I was there, but they would NOT let ANYONE wait for ANY specific seat. They would let 32 people onto the platformand if you were first to be let in, you had first choice of seats. This was during the off-season, and makes more sense, because with a relatively short wait for the ride, you could have 2/3 waiting for front and back, while sending open trains. During summer weekends, it probably isnt necessary.
NOTE: My party included 5 people, and we got the front 2 times in a row, so 4 out of the 5 of us got to ride the front. The next time we rode, a single rider was in front and our 5th person got to ride with him. What luck!

I hate when they assign seats. I always the front or back but its always taken. Now they have a line for the front seat but its always to long.

When I was there in June they didn't assign you seats so you went to whatever row you wanted. But they wouldn't let more than two people in a row, so if the row you wanted had already been taken you couldn't wait for it. they stopped letting people in the station once every row had two riders. The good thing was everyone usually runs to the front few rows, and me and my friend casually walked to the left straight to the back row, and only had to indure insults from people waiting behind us. 5 of our 6 rides were from the last row.

I couldn't imagine how this would make the lines move faster. If they are having to direct people to their lines or seats. I have never been to CP, but basing my thoughts on other coasters that draw long lines I wouldn't think that you would have to assign seats to ensure the train would be full. With AC and Alpie at BGW there simply is a queue for each row of seating, with a winding queue for the front and back. You kind of can strategize then and decide whether you want to wait longer for the front or back or just pick the shortest line. No time is taken to tell people where to go, and when the gates open the seats fill up. Most of the time if there are going to be empty seats people just call back in the line ahead of time to find the proper sized group or single to fill the seat(s). It works fast and doesn't seem as condescending as telling people where to sit. I know many times if I didn't feel like waiting for the last row, I would simply take the second to last row for a shorter wait, I would hate to not have this option.

When I went, they had supposed "assigned seating". On our 2nd ride, the attendant told us to go to empty seat line, but we went to the front instead. The ride stopped for about 30minutes, so I sat my butt down right there and said, "I'm not leaving this line, I don't care how long I have to wait..." While loading, the Attendant said my dedication was admirable, and he gave me a ticket to the front of the line for any coaster (except MF) I felt proud...

Well the station isn't big enough to hold maybe more than three or four train loads. so they can keep the current system or make the station fill up

The System works fine if you ask me, they don't assign seats its just first come first served, you can wait for the front or back but I just go to the second seat if no one else has not a bad seat on the force anyway, you get thrown over the hill so speeds are all the same and the trains are just awesome, riding yesterday I was hanging out of the trian on the over banked turns was pretty sweet had the 3rd seat yesterday. Anyway I hate nothing more then getting all balled up in the station because people are too stupid to move plus I am very claustrophobic so I like the system.

To make this clear.......they don't actually tell you what row to go in! On a normal day at CP, all they do is let 32 people in the station when the last train leaves. It is first come, first served seating, the ride ops don't actually tell you where to sit.

Referring to the question that was asked. I like the controlled amount of people (32) on the platform every train because it keeps the platform from being so chaotic.

I like the system of assigned seating on MF, it keeps the line moving at a steady pace. If you want to ride in the front or back you have the option to do so, although you may have to wait an extra half an hour but it is well worth it.
