The Beast outdoes it's son totally. It's amazing how the Son of Beast can be so much taller and faster than it's "daddy," yet be less intense. It shows how height really doesn't matter in determining a great ride. The final helix through the Beast is a roller coaster masterpiece, perhaps the greatest element on a modern coaster. It left me with an adrenaline rush that even beat Millennium Force's rush.
While SOB is a very good and intense ride, I believe the helixes should have been made tighter and lower, so the trains don't lose speed through them. The loop is great, but the ride lacks airtime. It has one hill that looks like a good airtime hill, but it never delivers. While the Beast doesn't have much airtime, it at least has two times where you get out of your seat quite a bit.
The Beast is trimmed quite a bit, at least it has the old-fashioned skid brakes that aren't as noticeable when they brake the trains as the newer squeeze brakes most modern coasters have. The brakes on the Beast really don't bother me too much, because the whole ride is still fast.
I still like SOB. I'd probably put it as my #4 woodie behind the Beast, Villain, and Thunderbolt.
