When I was in high school, in Physics class each student was assigned a ride. We had to research it in advance. Then we took a bus out to the park, spent from 9 am until 1030 am photographing the ride and walking it with the operator or a park engineer. We had an all day pass to ride it as many times as we wanted. We diagrammed everything. Then we had six weeks to build a working scale model of our ride. When we put all the rides together, we had a model of all of Kennywood Park. The teacher had built the nonride buildings (rest rooms, food servce, ticket booths, etc.), which he added to complete the model park. We set it up in the gym for public display. I built the Tilt-a-Whirl, but my best friend built the Jackrabbit. He used balsa wood and HO gauge train railing, with an Erector Set electric motor. He went on to Purdue and is now a mechanical engineer.
