Midwest trip to ride X - ??'s for SFMM/LA people
I am strongly considering coming out to LA & Magic Mountain when X opens. However, I probably won't have the time or money to stay there for any length of time. I want to fly in, go to the park all day, and fly out. Maybe stay 2 days if I can arrange some cheap lodging.
Does anyone know of any shuttles that go between the airport, and Magic Mountain ? Are they timed so that you can fly in during the morning, and still catch a shuttle back to the airport at night ? I don't mind spending time in the airport waiting for my flight if the times don't line up exactly, however I DO want to have a full day at the park (and will probably need it with the long lines X will have). Any information - tips, tricks, transportation, cheap lodging, etc... will be greatly appreciated !
Also, again I make the request - if anyone in Southern Wisconsin or Northen Illinois (or anywhere in the upper MW, for that matter) is interested in going out to LA when X opens, let me know (please look up my info and contact me via e-mail - NOT via the forum). Keep in mind that I want this to be a -short- trip. Fly in to LA in the morning, fly out the same night. Unless we can all pitch in for a hotel or if you have a place to stay, then maybe we could make it a 2 day trip.
My preferance would be to fly out of Milwaukee (MKE), but if the price is right, O'hare or Midway would be OK to. Thanks ! :)

Also - does anyone know why SFMM is open until 1am on Fri. Sept 21st, when every other Friday in September they are only open until 6pm ??? Would this be a good day to go, or is this some sort of special celebration where it will be too crowded ?
My prefered date(s) to go is Sept 13th-16th, as my birthday is on the 14th, and X would be one hell of a birthday present !

I don't think there are any shuttles....but I would recommend that you fly to Burbank. It's much closer to SFMM than LAX. I'd say Burbank is 20-25 miles from SFMM. The price of a taxi at that distance would probably justify a car rental. Rapid transit would take way too long. Let me know what day you decide to go. Perhaps I'll join yer expedition.

I have ridden EVERY coaster within 3hrs on WEEKDAYS in September. September 21 is a special Christian Jaboree Night. Stay Away on Sep 21! If you MUST fly into LAX, the drive to Magic Mountain is about an hour. If you can fly into Burbank, the drive is about 20 minutes. If you don't have a Six Flags season pass or any discount coupons, bring a COKE can. It is worth $12 off admission.
PS - Dont go On Sep 5 & 6. You'll cut into MY ride time. :-)

You could schedule a private shuttle bus to take you to the park and pick you up, but that would cost almost as much as a one-day rental.

As for lodging, there are plenty of Motel 6-type outfits up and down Interstate 5 near the park which can be had for approx. $35-40/night.
The 1 am closing on 9/21/01 is for Halleluah Jubilee (or whatever they call it), a night for all the local churces to come to the park and live it up. Avoid it, unless you like really long lines and people singing gospel songs en masse.
Above all, better make sure MM actually gets the ride open before you book your flight. Superman: The Escape took over one year to open from the end of construction. Not saying that will happen with X, but why spend the money if you can't be reasonably sure.
My other recommendation would be to include Knott's in your trip, one of the best parks in the world...

Like other people have said, public trasportation in LA bites big time. There is no public transportation of any kind to SFMM from LAX.
Six Flags Magic Mountain is open on September 21st until 1 in the morning because of the Christian Music Festival. The park will be crowded but most people are more civilized than normal and most people will be there for the music instead of the rides.

Yeah...sounds like the 21st is outta the question. I hope they have fun...but that's not for me. I do have to wonder though...if the Church of Satan wanted to rent the place, would they even let them ? And would they let them stay open past the witching hour ? ;) The Gospal kids get to ride 'til 1am, but us average Joes only get a 6pm closing time. Damn them... (pun almost not intended). ;)

YOU WANT TO GO WHEN THEY CLOSE AT 6!
PS: Knotts isnt as great as Bassistist claims, however, GHOSTRIDER is worth the admission alone! If you go after 4pm, Knotts offers a discount admission. $10-$20 depending on day and season.
