Very chilling story about Superman crash

If I was this guy with my wife(his was his girlfriend) I dont know what I would do, being stuck in a coaster with your significant other bleeding and not being able to do anything.
The story is a pretty vivid account of what happend on the coaster's that day.

I haven't been up to date, how did the brakes fail? Aren't/weren't they permanent magnetic brakes? The same as found on Giant Drops that require no electrical power?

The article went a little overboard with the war analogy. 22 minor injuries hardly compares to a real battlefield. At least the author mentioned that more people get hurt playing golf each year, even if he does bury it in one small paragraph.
