Wooden hypers

To my knowledge SOB is the only woodie above 200ft,are there any other hyper woodies, and let me know if they are any good,that includes SOB, Ive never riden it. Also do any of you think there will be a wooden giga, if so, who do you think will biuld it first
My feeling is that we wont see one any time soon. All that lumber and maintenace seems like a major hassle. Dont get me wrong Id love to see and ride one......hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...Mayber Ill be the first to build one

SOB is the only one. If anyone would be dumb enough to build a giga woodie, I don't know what they are smoking, but it'd be stronger than what PKI managment was smoking when they decided to build a hyper woodie...
IMO, woodies should not be taller than 150 feet, otherwise it ruins the feel, the designer can get lazy then. If it is tall, it is fast. If it's 50-100 feet tall, the designer has to design it to feel fast, even though it's only 40-50 mph. When you get above 100 feet, then it starts pushing it where the designer can make it go fast, rather than feel fast.

i have heard that the intamin hyper woodie colossus rides like an steel intamin hyper. While it is probably an incredible ride and I love intamin's hypers, I think there is no point in building a wooden coaster if it has the feel of steel. Woodies have there own out of conrol feel to them and the bigger theycome the more they'll feel like a steel coaster or just be full of brakes like mean streak.

I love Son of Beast, and I welcome more Hyper woodies, as long as they are well built and exciting. I'd love it if CCI built one !!

I thought SoB was a great coaster, not worth the 2 hour 45 minute wait, but still a great coaster. I still am not the biggest fan of wooden hypers, because of like TrBiggar said, they make designers lose the creativity by not coming up with as clever of a design for the coaster, which does show on SoB, not any series of hills through the ride, sure there are other drops than the first one, but the ride layout is still kinda weak.

I just have one question, for a steel to be a hyper, most say it can't have inversions, so for a wooden roller coaster to be a hyper, does it have to have any inversions?

Personally, I think a hyper coaster is anything 200-299 feet tall. It doesn't matter how many inversions are on it.

Accually, Pantera Psycho, a hyper is whatever you call a hyper. There is no true deffinition. Most people think 200-300 feet, no inversions. I think "If the company that built it calls it a hyper, it's a hyper!" So, I guess in that case, SFGAm has no hyper, but is one of the few parks in the world with a Speed Coaster! I prefer my definition of a hyper over any other, but it is harder to identify them then, because you must be able to tell which company built it, and what the company calls thier 200+ footers. The easiest definition would be any coaster 200 feet or taller with a 194'8" drop or over (so Magnum can get in there).

I think that if someone wanted a giga-woodie, they could just call Intamin...even though it wouldn't ride like a woodie, it'd be smooth as glass with that prefabricated track they use.

That generally seems to be true of any "first of it's kind" coaster. I think the layout of MF is a little weak. The steepness and speed of the first drop are it's biggest thrill, but after that it could be better. I still like it enough for it to be my #2 steel coaster (at least until I get back to CP to re-evaluate it). Iron Wolf and Stealth are other examples - good, but still kinda basic compared to what came after them. SoB is a great coaster, but the best are yet to come.

Hyper... Such a great marketing term...

Lets see Kings Island Son Of Beast 218 feet. I'm sure someone some day will break that record. Could a 250 foot CCI work?

I agree with most of you that wooden ypers should not be made because I like them to keep that classic feel of being large but not giant. If a park were to build another hyper woodie they would have to make the track layout really really long. Look at Shivering Timbers (which I have heard is a great coaster and I know some people would not want me to include this coaster in a thread with SOB) For St's height it is an extremely long wooden coaster which ranks it in the top five among other wooden coasters.
I think if you want to go up more you have to extend a coaster more. I have not been to PKI and I definately would want to ride SOB and no matter what people say about I still think it is a great looking coaster. (And does this coaster slam into the brakes by the station? Just wondering what the onstant speed is like, anyway...) Because traveling at lightening speeds of 80 mph, SOB should have been longer. PKI does not look like they had room to have designed it longer due to a confined space in the Action Zone (and also because I dont think they would have wanted to dethrone their legendary Beast). They should have at least added three-thousand feet more of track so they could have had bunny hops or whatever the like.
